Charles Alan Skip Hankins

January 28, 1954 ~ May 26, 2018
Charles "Skip" Alan Hankins
64, of Savannah, died on Saturday, May 26, 2018, in Mulvane, Kansas. Skip was born January 28, 1954, in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, to the late Charles and Suzanne Hankins. He was the oldest of four children. Skip spent his early childhood at Overland Park, Kansas. As an army brat Skip attended a dozen of schools all over the US, Germany, France, and even Russia before his parents retired in Savannah, Georgia. In Savannah, Skip graduated from Windsor Forest High (1972) and Armstrong State College with Bachelor of Arts / Political Science Degree (1979). Luckily for all of us who knew Skip and whose lives he profoundly touched, his dream of a political career never came true. Instead of becoming a career politician Skip spent next thirty years on the information technology frontier, shaping Savannahs IT market from Entre Computers to Systems Connect, mentoring dozens of young entrepreneurs as well as volunteering with Salvation Army and Saint Peters Episcopal Church on Skidaway Island. After retiring from Systems Connect in 2008, Skip and his family moved to Geneva, Switzerland where Skip continued volunteering at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. He did the same five years later, after returning to the States and settling in Wichita, KS. In Wichita Skip volunteered for Episcopal Social Service and Habitat for Humanity, fed the homeless through the Lords Diner. Skip also served on the Board at the Episcopal Social Service. Skip was a Realtor for J.P. Weigand and was serving on the committee of Realtors of South Central Kansas in the capacity as Past Chair of the Community Involvement Committee. Among many other things, Skip was a world traveler, sailor, and a die-hard Jayhawks fan. He was well known for his outgoing matter and sense of humor as well as his endless willingness to help others. One of Skips favorite quotes was by Sir Richard Burton - "The gladdest moment in human life, me thinks, is a departure into unknown lands." So, from all us who knew and loved Skip "Farewell, dear friend, may your journey into unknown be peaceful. We will miss you, as the world never will be the same without you". He is survived by his companion Sherrie Kuwahara-Mallatt; children, Stella Hankins, Alex Hankins, Natalie and Mike Ferland, and Ben and Mandi Hankins; grandchildren, Jackson Ferland and Cadence Hankins; and siblings, Cole and Tracy Hankins, Pete and Colleen Hankins, and Ann Cone plus a boatload of nieces and nephews and endless number of friends worldwide.
