Bertha Elizabeth Milbank

Milbank, Bertha, 101, died July 27, 2012 after leading a full and enriched life serving her beloved family and community. Memorial service will be at St. James Episcopal Church, Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 11:30 A.M.. Born in Tucumcari, NM July 10, 1911, she spent most of her youth in Carrollton, MO. After achieving a degree from Missouri Valley College, she taught school in Iowa and Missouri. In 1938 she married George E. Milbank and began a new life in Wichita, raising two daughters and serving as a community leader in a multitude of ways. Organizations which benefited from her leadership include the Girl Scouts, Wichita Medical Association Auxiliary, Wichita Art Museum, Kansas State and National Association of Parliamentarians, Kansas Childrens Service League, Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonies, St. James Episcopal Church, Episcopal Diocese of Kansas and the Order of the Daughters of the King. Preceded by her husband George E. Milbank and great-granddaughter Kali E. Whittle. Survived by daughters Elizabeth A. Hart (Woodland Hills, CA) and Sarah “Sally” E. and Gary St. Clair (Empire, CO); grandsons Brad Hart, Bill Hart (both of CA), Mike St. Clair (CO); granddaughters Kathy Brown, Valerie Whittle, Michelle St. Clair and Mary Bower, (all of CO); numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and dear friend Kelly Harper. A special thanks to all of her caregivers from Right At Home and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
