Brown, Russell Calvin Jr., 66, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2010. Services, 3:00 P.M., Saturday, January 9, Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Russell was born to Bessie Young (Linton) and Russell Calvin Brown on December 1, 1943, in Oklahoma City, OK. He graduated from Coffeyville Junior College and Wichita State University. He was a retired truck driver and retired driving instructor from Wichita Area Technical College. He moved to Kansas in 1961 from Oklahoma City. Russell was a member of the Mid-American All-Indian Center, an All-American and was in the National Junior College Football Hall of Fame at Coffeyville. He enjoyed being outdoors, loved his family and especially loved and enjoyed his grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, a brother and a sister. Survivors include his son, Trey Brown and his wife, Tania, of Wichita; daughter, Shauna Feather of Wichita; 4 grandchildren, Nathan Russell, Clayton Russell, Mallory and Kaylee; sister, Koleeta Kirkham of Newcastle, OK and other relatives and friends.

  1. I am sorry for your loss. R C and I went through 3 years of college together, From Coffeyville to Wichita State University. There are a lot of memories that will never be forgotten. We are all better people for knowing him. R C was a good friend.

  2. RC and I, years ago, when we were neighbors made Home Made Wine and mixed it with Beer at Cheany Lake. This is what we called ‘Wine Coolers’ 🙂 We had some good times and got in trouble a few times, also. He was a good friend and I will miss him….. I am so sorry for your loss, your family will be in my thoughts & Prayers!

  5. To the family of RC, I knew RC when he attended Coffeyville Community College. He played football with my husband, Jack Hill. RC was a fine person and we enjoyed him very much. When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure. I pray for comfort and peace for you at this time.

  6. I have known R. C. since he was in the 7th grade at U.S. Grant High School in Oklahoma City, Ok. I was his line coach in football and his wrestling coach at U. S. Grant High School. I was also his football coach at Coffeyville Junior College, Coffeyville, Ks. He played both ways on offense and defense for two years where he made Junior College All- American.R. C. played football at Wichita State and receilved his degree there. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Coffeyville. We kept in touch over the years and I saw him this last October at Coffeyville. He was an excellent person with a great personlity and was a friend to all. He was a great family man and will be missed by his family and all of his friends. There will never be another R.C. He was a big man with even a bigger heart.
