Private graveside service. Preceded in death by his father, Joseph Osoba, mother Millie Osoba, brother Dr. Joseph S. Osoba, sister Helen Sandel, his wife Barbara E. Osoba, daughter Janet Bosserman and grandson, Grant Alexander Nelson. Survived by his son, William G. “Gary” (Christine) Osoba, Jr. of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughters, Helen (Dr. Kenneth) Nelson of Andover, Barbara (Jerry) Nolan of Lenexa, Kathy (Dr. Timothy) Barry of Parkville, Missouri, Niki (Brian) Bridges of Wichita, Pucka (Mark) Tomasic of Shawnee, Kansas, 18 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is survived by many other family members and loved ones. Bill proudly served in the navy during World War II. He was an undergraduate at the University of Texas, the University of Missouri and received his medical degree at Washington University. He was the first MD located west of the river in 1954. Bills practice was characterized by a deeply personal touch, where he recognized the value of treating the whole patient long before such precepts were institutionalized. As such, he often served as a trusted counselor while administering medical care- treating the mental, spiritual, and emotional needs of patients along with their physical needs. He continued to make house calls for years after such efforts had generally disappeared from medical practice. He was a gifted diagnostician, at times pinpointing very rare diseases. This when others- even specialists- had been challenged and sought additional help. He particularly enjoyed bringing new life into the world and delivered numerous babies during a time that obstetrics was just developing. A thankful patient once stated: “There are doctors, and there are healers. Bill is a healer”. He served as Chief of Staff at Wesley Medical Center in 1974, retiring from practice in 1994. Bill and Barbara were charter members of Trinity Presbyterian Church. He was an avid athlete most of his life, particularly enjoying golf and then tennis. We were truly blessed to call him dad! Memorials have been established with The Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219 and The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
