Lu L. Stein Brennan

Brennan, Lu L. Stein, 101, longtime Wichita resident, died at her home after a short illness on Sunday, July 29, 2007. She was born in 1906 in Utica, NE on a farm homesteaded by her father, an immigrant from Denmark. Lu graduated from high school in Alvo, NE and moved to Wichita to attend the Wichita Business College. She worked as a stenographer in the office of the Clerk of The District Court. While working there, she met Vincent Stein, who was at the time Register of Deeds for Sedgwick County. They married and lived in Wichita for many years until his death in 1970. Lu was married to S. Carnot Brennan from 1975 until his death in 1986. An infant daughter, Frances Ann, also preceded her in death. Lu was one of the original parishioners of Holy Savior Catholic Church and later a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish in Wichita. She was also a faithful volunteer for over 25 years in the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by three daughters, Catherine (John) Braunreiter of Fort Worth, TX, Barbara (Frank) Vopat of Wichita, Joanne Stein of Grand Rapids, MI; three grandchildren, Vince (Misty) Vopat of Tulsa, OK, Ted Vopat of Wichita, Maria Vopat of Kansas City, MO, and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Frank Jackson Vopat. Rosary, 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, August 1, Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Funeral Mass, 11:00 A.M., Thursday, August 2, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
