Elinor Frances Caplin Boots Bergman
September 20, 1922 ~ August 1, 2006
Bergman, Elinor “Boots” Frances Caplin, beloved wife of Harold, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2006, at the age of 83 following an extended illness. Her family was blessed to be by her side at the time of her passing. Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., on Friday, August 4, Hebrew Congregation Synagogue. Boots was born in Tulsa on September 20, 1922, to Morris Caplin of St. Louis and Anna Caplin, nee Cohen, of Kansas City. She attended the Universities of Texas and Oklahoma before marrying her sweetheart, Harold Israel Bergman, in Tulsa in 1944, seven years after their first date. The couple moved to Wichita in 1946 and have remained residents here for the past 60 years. September 3, 2006, would have marked the celebration of their 62nd anniversary. Boots was an active member of the Jewish community in Wichita, serving on the boards of Hadassah and the Sisterhood of The Hebrew Congregation, as well as on the board of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. She was also a proud member of the Democratic party and participated in fund-raising activities for numerous campaigns, including those of her “nephew,” Dan Glickman. Boots survived a diagnosis of cancer in 1971, and she subsequently spent years as a dedicated volunteer for the American Cancer Society, serving on their board. She was an avid bridge and mah jong player and a die-hard Shockers fan, never missing a WSU basketball game. Boots greatest treasures were her 3 daughters and her 6 grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved husband, Harold; her daughters, Marsha Weiss, Betsy Kusin and Kathy and Garey Marks, all of Houston; her grandchildren, Jeremy Weiss of Napa, CA, Meredith and Tim Foster of Los Angeles, Shana Kusin of St. Louis, Andrew Marks of Houston, Zev Kusin of Ithaca, NY and Annie Marks of Los Angeles; and her devoted sister, Shirley Glickman of Wichita. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in Elinor Bergmans name to The Hebrew Congregation of Wichita, to The American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
