Patrick E. Quaney

Quaney, Patrick E., 79, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012. Patrick was born February 16, 1932 in Topeka, Kansas to Laurence F. and Mildred G. (Hanna) Quaney. The family moved to Wichita in 1941 where Patrick attended St. Josephs Grade School. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950 just as the Korean War was starting. After service in the Army, he graduated in 1958 from WSU with a degree in Engineering. He worked for Continental Can Company out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for two years then moved to the San Francisco Bay area with Hunt Foods for two years. He then moved to Southern California and lived there for forty years. For 25 years, he owned and managed Quaney Plastics and Mold Manufacturing, Inc., in Anaheim. Patrick retired and returned to Wichita in 2002. He was active in politics, both in California and Kansas during his adult life and campaigned for the Kansas 4th District U.S. Congress in 2002 and 2006. He took pride in being a fourth generation Irish American and the fact that his family had been Kansans since before the Civil War. He was preceded in death by both parents and an older brother, L.F. “Red” Quaney (Eileen), of Colorado Springs. He is survived by daughter, Erin Kay Rush (Jake), and grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan and Alyssa, all of Wichita; sisters and brother, Ramona Rausch (Hank), Marcy Daze (Ralph) and Michael Quaney (Ann), all of Wichita. Also surviving are seventeen nieces and nephews and many grand-nieces and nephews. Patrick will be remembered by many friends and associates both in Kansas and California. Rosary, 7 p.m., Sunday, January 15; Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., Monday, January 16, both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
