Brosius Jr., Frank C., M.D., 85, retired cardiologist, died Sunday, August 15, 2010. A dedicated doctor remembered fondly by patients, Frank had many interests outside his practice as well. He fly-fished in his beloved Colorado and across the west, hunted pheasant, played tennis and golf, cheered his Jayhawks in basketball and football in good years and bad, and with his wife, Betty, raised three children, Frank III (Elizabeth and Katherine. Together he and Betty taught their children and five granddaughters and one grandson how to live and love life. Born Jan. 2, 1925, in Wichita to Frank C. and Jessie W. Brosius, Frank attended city schools. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1946 and from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1949, interned at Cook County Hospital in Chicago from 1949-1951, and served as a physician with the U.S. Air Force in 1951-52. While stationed in Alaska, he met Betty Kent, a stewardess with Canadian Pacific Airlines, and they married in 1952 and shared the next 58 years. Frank worked in general practice in Greensburg, Kan., and at Yellowstone National Park following his discharge from the Air Force. Cardiology proved to be his professional calling, and Frank completed his specialized training at the University of Oklahoma Medical School in Oklahoma City, 1956-57, and KU Medical Center in Kansas City, 1957-59. He returned to his hometown of Wichita in 1960 and went into practice with Internal Medicine Associates. He was a member of the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Internal Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, as well as a member of the American and Kansas medical associations and the Medical Society of Sedgwick County. Frank retired from practice in 1991 but continued to share his expertise by serving on the board of Rainbows United. In retirement, he and Betty spent many months each year at their home in Pagosa Springs, Colo., where they made a circle of friends, enjoyed the outdoors and escaped the heat of the Plains. Frankand Bettytraveled extensively to see friends, family and the sites. Frank shared Bettys appreciation of the arts and music and learned to play the piano in his later years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Frank Brosius III and Kate Roesch of Ann Arbor, Mich., and their daughters, Anna and Emily, both of Seattle, and Lizzy of Northhampton, Mass.; his daughter, Elizabeth, of Topeka and her daughter, Marita Robinson, of Queens, N.Y.; and his daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Brian Whepley, of Wichita and their children, Erin and Drew. Frank is also survived by his sister, Mary Ellen Barrier of Wichita. Services, 1 p.m. Saturday, University Congregational Church, 9209 E. 29th St. N., Wichita.
