Platte T. (Pete) Amstutz Jr. (92) passed away on May 1, 2007. Born on July 19, 1914, at Marquette, Michigan, he was the youngest of four children of Platte and Louise Amstutz. He graduated in 1935 from the College of Wooster in Ohio with a degree in geology and from the University of Pittsburgh in 1936 with a degree in petroleum geology. Here he and Latham Yates operated a petroleum consulting firm until Pete became a senior vice president in the oil loan division of the Fourth National Bank, retiring in 1983. Both prior to and after his retirement he served as a consultant to the Kansas Corporation Commission. Guestbook

  1. I left the Marine Corps in 1979. My wife is from Wichita and her parents were members of 1st Presbyterian. Through them I met Mr. Amstutz. He took a chance on me and suggested that I apply for a job at Merrill Lynch, which was my dream employer of choice, then located in the 4th building. He took it upon himself to suggest to to the manager that he talk to me even though he had never met me. I followed his suggestion, was hired and enjoyed a nearly 40 year career at Merrill which was very fulfilling on many levels. His confidence in a young Marine Officer helped me and my family greatly. I’m sorry I didn’t see of his passing until today. He was a fine man who took a chance on me and mentored me as I began a Merrill Lynch. We later relocated to Idaho but my fondness and appreciation for Mr. Amstutz continues. My belated condolences to the family.
