Caroline Curtis Carson “Cay” Hatcher 92, born April 6, 1923, in Wichita, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2015. Memorial Service will be at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East. In lieu of flowers, family requests a donation to Chisholm Trail Museum, formerly the Hatcher Hospital, 502 N. Washington, Wellington, KS 67152. Daughter of Frank Lee and Carrie Mae (Price) Carson, Cay attended college in Massachusetts and graduated from Kansas University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was also a member of Colonial Dames of America and Junior League of Wichita. She married Dr. Albert C. Hatcher, of Wellington, KS. At her marriage, she acquired and soon adopted his three young children, Lynn, Buzz (A.R., II), and Lou. Cay is survived by Lynn Hatcher Lipshy (Bruce) of Austin, TX, Lou Hatcher Kryder (Jack) of Dallas, TX, and Patricia Barker Hatcher (Buzz) of Oceanside, CA; sister, Virginia Lee Garver (Mrs. James L.) of Wichita; brother, Dr. John C. Carson (Elizabeth) of La Jolla, CA; grandchildren, Carson Clement Arkinson (John) of Austin, TX, and her two sons, Henry and Hatcher Stanford; Nathan Hatcher (Sondra) and their two children, Blake and Elaine, of Buda, TX; Peter Hatcher (Sarah) and their two sons, Garrett and Conner, of Omaha, NE. Cay is also survived by two cousins, Landon Dwight Haydock, Jr. (Vicki) and Mary Lee Haydock (Mike) of Emory, TX. Twenty-one special nieces and nephews also survive. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son; her brother, Frank Carson, Jr.; sisters, Mary Martha Kellogg (Robert) and Frances Price Atchison. After Dr. Hatchers death in 1964, Cay moved to their cabin outside of Creede, CO, which she added to and winterized for her home. In 1988 she married Ralph Conkey, guide, outfitter, and manager of the Rio Grande Reservoir some miles up the river from her Creede home. At his untimely death, Cay moved back to Wichita to be nearer her family. Her family was her greatest love.
