Denny, Irene G.G, 86, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away Friday, February, 01, 2008. Funeral service 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 4 Downing Lahey East Chapel. Irene was preceded in death by husband, Henry, owner of Avenue Plaza. Survivors: daughter; Carol (Bill) Schell of Wichita, grandchildren; Dana R. Schell (Jason) Lonergan and Aimee L. Schell (Joe) Cole, all of Wichita. Great-grandchildren; Cody, Harter and Lexi Lonergan, Cooper and Canon Cole. Irene was the last child of 5 to be born into the family of Emanuel and Pauline Karst on November 15, 1921 in the Hoisington, KS hospital. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Irene graduated in 1940 from Hoisington high school. She worked during high school years for families, doing ironing and house cleaning for no money, just organ lessons. Irene came to Wichita in May of 1940 and sought employment as a waitress in the Green fountain room at the George Innes Company. There she met Henry, her soon to be husband. On Nov. 2, 1941, they married. Irene worked at Cessna Aircraft during the war. She and Henry moved to Denver, CO, where Henry was in the army and stationed at Lourey field during WWII. They enjoyed their time in Denver socially. Made nice, lasting friends and Irene still spoke to several before her passing. When the war was over, they moved back to their home in Wichita. In Oct. 1946, a daughter was born, Carol Ann. Irene volunteered at Wesley Medical Center for over 24 years. She was always there for you when in need.
