Lois Jean Meisinger passed away the morning of May 14, 2016 in West Linn, OR. Her funeral service will be at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Wichita on Saturday, May 21 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at the Methodist cemetery in Otis, KS at 2:30 p.m. on May 21. Lois was born on May 21, 1932 in Great Bend, KS. She grew up on a farm near Otis, KS, the daughter of Sam and Sophia Appel. She graduated from Otis High School and attended one year of college at Fort Hays State University. She married Merlin Meisinger on August 24, 1952 in Otis and moved to Wichita in 1957 where she lived for 56 years moving to Oregon in 2013 to live near her daughter. She and Merlin spent winters in Tucson, AZ after their retirement where they enjoyed hiking and other outdoor activities. Lois was employed by St. Joseph Medical Center working many years as a secretary with the Edgerton Foundation and the St. Joseph Health Corporation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin; son, Kent; parents, Sam and Sophia Appel; brothers, Charles, Norman and Dick; and sister, Mary Ann Dreiling. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Meisinger; son-in-law, Barry Buchanan; sister-in-law, Sarah Appel Mallory; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Lois enjoyed travel, music and animals, especially cats. She was an active member of her church for many years and participated in many committees and activities. She was a wonderful mother, aunt and friend and will be missed by all that knew her. Her family and friends particularly appreciated her fun-loving nature and her thoughtfulness towards them. Memorials have been established with Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, 5701 E Mt Vernon St, Wichita, KS 67218 and Cat Adoption Team, 14175 SW Galbreath Dr, Sherwood, OR 97140.
