Garrison, Roy Charles “Chuck”, 84, of Wichita Kansas passed away on Tuesday, January 30th in Stockton California as a result of respiratory failure. His life will be remembered and celebrated Monday, Feb 5 at 2:00pm at the College Hill United Methodist Church, 2930 East First St in Wichita. A graveside service will be at Lyona Methodist Church on Tuesday, Feb 6 at 11:00 am, 1800 Wolf Road (old Hwy 77- near Woodbine, Kansas). Born to John and Lucile Garrison in Sylvia, Kansas on January 26, in 1923, Roy was raised in Hutchison as one of five children, including Max Lewis (deceased), Harold Keith, Margaret Garrison Barger, and Roger Kent. At age 18, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corp. Roy served his country as a combat cargo pilot flying the China, India, Berma “hump” in WWII and night photo recon. in the Korean war. He established a distinguished career earning the Distinguished Flying Cross (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Air Medal (three Oak Leaf Clusters) Pacific-Asiatic Theater Ribbon. After the war, Roy returned to Kansas State University where he met Della Mae Poland, his life-partner, started a family and completed a B.S. Degree in Industrial Engineering in 1949. His love of flying led him into a career in private aviation which spanned 40 years. He held senior management positions at Grumman-American Aviation and Cessna Aircraft Co, as International Sales and Marketing Director, which took him and his family all over the world. He is generally recognized as a founder of the modern day private aircraft marketing and merchandising methodology, still being used successfully today. Roy is survived by his wife, Della Poland Garrison whose 60 year love affair begat three children, Ralf Garrison (wife, Betty and daughter Anna Brit) of Denver CO, Ann Garrison Whelpton (husband John and their children, Ross and Leigh Ann) of Oxford, OH and Karen Garrison McNickle (and her children Kari and Kelsey) of Stockton, CA. Chuck will be remembered lovingly by his family and the many friends and colleagues, whose lives he touched while living his own to the fullest. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made in Chucks name to Lyona United Methodist Church, or St Josephs Foundation for Respiratory Intensive Care Unit c/o Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
