Debicki, Mary Beth, 48, passed away Saturday, February 13, 2010. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Friday, February 26 at Downing and Lahey East Mortuary. The Funeral Mass is at 10 am Saturday, February 27 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. A 4:00 pm burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence, KS. She was the daughter of Andrew P. and Mary Jo Tidmarsh Debicki of Lawrence, deceased, and the step-daughter of Mary Elizabeth Debicki-Guinness also of Lawrence. She had recently been working with Red Cross Disaster Relief Services and on the Library Committee of the Whitewater Public Library in Whitewater, KS. Survivors include her sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Robert Cooney, a niece, Antonia Cooney and an uncle, Reverend John D. Debicki of Washington DC. She is also survived by two step-brothers and two step-sisters, as well as by nine step-nieces and step-nephews. A memorial has been established with the Whitewater Memorial Library, 118 E. Topeka, Whitewater, KS, 67154-8700

Mary Beth was a student of mine at Lawrence High. I remember her as being a sweet, very intelligent, kind young woman during those difficult days in her life. I wish I could have known her in her later life because, from all indications of her teen years, she must have been a wonderful person. My condolences to her family.
I met Mary Beth and her husband Manrico five yers ago I was a volunteer fire fighter with the whitwater fire Dept. They were truely great people I was glad to have known them. Mary Beth may you rest in peace. God Bless you and your family. We will miss you. Dave Meeks and family
I first met Mary Beth about 15 years ago at a shop in Halstead where our mechanics worked on the Unimog. It was always a joy to see her and her four-legged ‘children.’ They would show up, prepared to spend the day while the Unimog was being worked on. She had the most wonderful smile and always made those around her smile, too. She knew how to make you feel good inside. It was an honor and delight to know her.
I have fond memories of walking to and from school, Brownies & Girl Scouts and fun times growing up in Lawrence. I know Mary Beth will be missed by all who know her now, as well as those of us who knew her then.
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this tragic time. Our hearts are broken over your loss and our loss of Mary Beth. She was such a genuine, caring and loving person. She was a strong leader in our community and strived to always help others. She will be greatly, greatly missed, but in our hearts forever.
Your family has been in my thoughts and prayers. I worked with Mary Beth through the library and other community events, and we talked often as she walked by the house several times a week. My sympathy and condolences to you all, with love and prayers…
I am so saddened by the loss of such a beautiful & vibrant person in our community, my best memory of Mary Beth is seeing her out walking her dogs and smiling, she always had a smile, you will be greatly missed.
Dear Margaret, We were students at KU and only knew you and your sister when you were little girls (we left Lawrence 38 years ago). Your father was not only a wonderful professor but he had a big impact in our lives since he helped us in our academic endeavors but also, along with your mother, in solving many personal problems we had as a young married couple. Therefore, we were deeply shocked and saddened by the events and hope that you have great strength to bear the sorrow that we imagine this has caused you and your family. We’re sure that we’re all comforted by the fact that Mary Beth is with your parents and, like them, continues to inspire us from above. Please receive our deepest condolences and a big abrazo. I met Mary Beth 22 years ago when she and Manrico bought their Whitewater home from our real estate agency. We enjoyed meeting and getting to know them, so full of life and excitement about the new house & moving, working on the house, a new job, and becoming residents of our community. They proved to be an asset to the community and impacted the lives of many people. Our sympathy is with you.

When we are young, we have so many people that we look up to, people that help us to become who we are as adults. Once we are adults, it is rare to find someone that is an example of who we would like to become. Mary Beth was such an example to me, an example of who I would like to become – her wealth of knowledge and her many travels were incredible to hear about, her compassion for animals was inspirational and her energy in everything she did was contagious to me and my family. I will always remember Mary Beth’s smile, friendly greetings and love for her pets.
I would like to offer my condolences to Margaret and the rest of her family for the loss of Mary Beth, her beloved sister. Mary Beth brought so much joy in her time on this beautiful green earth of ours, with her energy, intelligence, ready smile, and open heart. I do hope that the memories of her and her vitality will be of comfort, perhaps not right now, but in the future. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.
We are truly saddened by the loss of Mary Beth. We have known her since they came to our town in the eighties. I can’t tell you how much she cared for our community and all the volunteering efforts she contributed to our people. We have lost a truly wonderful person and we will miss her all the days of our lives. Our deepest heartfelt sympathy to her family. May the Lord comfort you in these sad times and the days that follow.
Mary Beth was the bright spot in my day everytime I saw her. I am, of course, grieving for the loss of a friend, but I am also so grateful that I knew her at all. She will be missed…words cannot express just how much.
Mary Beth brought such joy and laughter to those of us who had the pleasure of knowing her. I pray that in time your family can have only memories of her life. You are and continue to be in my prayers. Thank you for sharing her with us.
