Annette June (Browning) Almes June, 80, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, May 27, 2018. June was a great Christian woman, wife, and mother. She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, David; two daughters, Brenda and (Chad Cline) of Fort Worth, Texas and Barbara and (Steve McAdams) of Keller, Texas; four grandsons, Jared and Jason Cline and Michael and Gabriel McAdams; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Phil and Marian Almes of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and other family, including first cousins, living in San Diego, California; Washington Court House, Ohio; and other towns in Ohio. June was born on June 27, 1937, in Steubenville, Ohio to Gordon and Annette Browning. She graduated from Muskingum University in New Concord, Ohio with honors in three years with a degree in Drama, Speech and English and then taught high school in Cherryville, Kansas for three years. David and June married, moved to Wichita, and soon were parents. She returned to teaching in the Wichita Public Schools after receiving her masters degree from Wichita State University in Special Education. She retired as the Coordinator of Special Education at Northwest High School. June was very active in Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was the Clerk of Session for three years, was very active in the womens organizations, led the churchs drama programs, and preached, when asked, in area Presbyterian churches. After attending a class on Stephen Ministries in Maryland, June returned to train and lead four Stephen Ministry groups who served with her on pastoral care boards for several years. She also taught childrens Sunday School and later used her talents to teach adult Bible classes. She was an officer in the Presbyterian Mariners several times. June loved to study the Bible, participating in Bible Study Fellowship for many years. Though she had memorized many Scripture verses, two were favorites: Philippians 4:13 "For I can do everything with the help of Christ who gives me the strength I need." and Romans 8:28 "And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them." June loved life! She loved to play the piano, travel, hike, ride a tandem bicycle with David (over 2,600 miles), and snow and water ski in their seasons. Junes ashes will be interred in a columbarium on the campus of Muskingum University where she and David met. Twelve years ago June was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease. Along with her family, she bravely fought the disease even as daily living became difficult and unmanageable for her. With her passing, she is free of the disease and with her Lord where she no longer has to struggle. She has finally beat Parkinsons! A celebration of Junes life will be held at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1750 N. Tyler Road, Wichita, Kansas, at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Parkinsons Foundation, 200 SE 1st Street, Suite 800, Miami, FL 33131, www.parkinson.org.
