Miller, Boulton Bainbridge, Ph.D., age 97, Colonel, U. S. Army, Retired, and Professor Emeritus, School of Business, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, died Friday, February 15, 2013. A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 10:00 A.M., at Larksfield Place Chapel. The Greenfield/ Rockbridge, Illinois Methodist Church Pastor will conduct a service at the interment of his ashes at the Oak Wood Cemetery, Greenfield, IL on a date yet to be determined. Dr. Miller was born in Greenfield, IL, grew up on a farm in the edge of Rockbridge, IL, attended Kemper Military School prior to the University of Illinois where he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in 1937 and assigned to the 6th Infantry, Jefferson Barracks, MO. As a Regular Army Officer, he remained in the service until 1964. During his Army career he earned two degrees from George Washington University and a Ph.D. from American University. Colonel Miller organized and pioneered the first use of van-mounted computers in direct support of combat troops under field conditions. Upon his retirement from the Army, after 27 years in the military, he became a professor at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, IL. He organized and taught the first graduate course in Information Resource Management in 1980. After his retirement from SIU-E in 1986, the family relocated to Williamsburg, VA where he continued to teach at The College of William Mary as a Full Time Visiting Professor. In 1991, after another 27 years, this time as a college professor, Dr. Miller and his wife Marian relocated to Wichita, KS. In Wichita, he continued his research in knowledge development and volunteered to work with the Technology and Steering Committees of USD 259 on the Bond Issue and its implementation. As a Kemper graduate, he has been involved in the rebuilding effort at that school. His wife Marian, after more than 50 years of marriage preceded him in death in 1995. Survivors include daughters, Bonita Cummings of Warrenville, IL, Michele Meadors of Yorktown, VA, Marla Hayden of Wichita, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. A memorial has been established with Larksfield Place Circle of Friends Fund. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
