Hampel, Alfred W. “Al”, 88, founder of Hampel Oil Distributors, passed away Monday, September 20, 2010. He was born February 14, 1922 in Waterloo, Kansas. Al was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and a charter member of Council #4118. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was also a charter member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church and retired from Amoco Oil Company. Rosary/Vigil, 7 p.m., Thursday, September 23; Funeral Mass, 10 a.m., Friday, September 24, both at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Preceded in death by son, Daniel; parents, Fred and Helen (Beat) Hampel; brother, Norbert; brothers-in-law, C.I. Kelsey, Albie Bergkamp, Gene Hon and Melvin Kerschen. Survivors: wife, Oliva (Theis) Hampel; sons, William (Janet), Robert (Jorene), Kenneth (Missy) and Edward (Nancy) all of Wichita; brothers and sisters, John (Flo), Florence Kelsey, Bernice Bergkamp, Ernestine Hon, Paul (Phyllis), Ruth Heithaus (Ken) all of Wichita, Martha Kerschen of Garden Plain, Martin (Pat) of Kingman and Geraldine Ziegler (Phil) of Medicine Lodge; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Hampel of Wichita; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.
