May 17, 1914 ~ February 19, 2017
Stanley Dolinar, 102, of Wichita, KS, passed away Sunday, February 19, 2017. He was born in Arcadia, KS, on May 17, 1914. He is survived by his son, David (Diane) Dolinar of Wichita, KS; daughter, Diana (Robert) Thomson of St. Charles, MO; grandchildren, Shawn (Laura) McMahon of Virginia Beach, VA, Brian (Sarah) Dolinar of Urbana, IL, Wesley Dolinar of Denver, CO, Heather (John) Pritchard of Nashville, TN; great-grandchildren, Jake Dolinar, William Whitney, Melanie Hanson, Andrea Hanson, Jeremy McMahon, Katilyn McMahon. He is preceded in death by his wife, Amogene Dolinar (they were married 55 years); brother, Frank Dolinar; sister, Emma Lovelace; grandson, Jason McMahon. Stan spent his childhood fishing, swimming and ice skating, hunting, and just generally being an "all around" boy. He always said he had the best childhood a boy could have. Wichita has been Stans home since 1938. Stan received a woodworking scholarship to continue his education, but at that time there wasnt money to take advantage of this opportunity. He worked at Boeing for 6 years, an oil refinery in Augusta and then went to a watch making school in Kansas City. Once he graduated he began working at Barriers Jewelry as a watchmaker, salesman and eventually managed the store. He worked for Barriers for 29 years. Stan met his wife, Amogene "Jean" Lenore Gehrke, at a dance in Wichita. They married and had two children Diana and David. The family spent many weekends at a lake enjoying the power boats that Stan made. The family always took a two-week vacation and headed out west where they camped out and enjoyed the great outdoors. Once the children left home and after Stan and Jean retired, there was time for more travel, fishing, woodworking, and golf. Jean passed away in 1995 and Stan continued living in his home for eleven more years. He eventually decided to move to Larksfield and said that was one of the best decisions he ever made. He spent his time at Larksfield taking full advantage of the Fitness Center, swimming pool, meeting with friends for coffee and cookies, reading the paper and doing the Jumble and Cryptoquip, and watching the birds from his apartments picture window. He belonged to the Albert Pike Lodge #303 since 1942 and has been a member of Plymouth Congregational Church since 1948. As Stan said many times - Ive been blessed to lead a good life “there is nothing I would change about my life.” A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017, at 3:30 P.M., at Larksfield Place, 7373 E. 29th St. N. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Larksfield Resident Care Services Fund, 7373 E. 29th St. N., Wichita, KS 67226. Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.
