We were sorry to read of Lilia’s death on June 4th… We had been trying to locate her, since their home phone number had been changed. We had known Lilia and Al for about 12-14 years as friends. Al would come to Temple Emanu-El and quickly Larry and Al became very good friends and influenced one another. Larry got involved in going to medical meetings with Al and Al got involved with the Brotherhood at the Temple and went on to become the Brotherhood President. Thru Al, we met Lilia and spent social time together. When we went on our first trip to Jerusalem, after meeting Al, he encouraged us to visit Madeline, his brother’s daughter by marriage. He shared with us the sadness of Madeline’s brother who died defending his kibbutz in Israel. The trip to Israel that Al took with his older brother, was most meaningful for Al. It was so sad for all of us when Al died so suddenly. Rabbi Davis did the Service for him at Downing and Lahey. Lilia was upset that Rabbi Davis, did not contact her on an ongoing basis after Al’s death. At one point years later, she said Larry and I were the only folks from the Temple that still kept in contact with her. She was a life member of Hadassah, a Jewish woman’s group and appreciated what their Hospital in Israel did. Lilia was most appreciative of you Vern and what all your immediate family did daily for her. She always referred to you, Vern as a ‘good older brother’. She so appreciated you, Vern when with your wife, you took her and went to Florida; and was it the Mayo Clinic, where you alsotook Lilia? Lila’s family in Florida and NJ were special to her, as where her former classmates, her Great Nephew, his wife and their little one in Kansas City, and a former Las Vegas business partner Barry and his family. Lilia was not an easy person, to be close with. She loved her dogs and they in turn loved her. But Vern you were very much her favorite person!!!!! She was most appreciative of everything you did for her during her declining years!!!!And… she was glad she had been able to help your Mom!!!! Do tell us Vern what happened to Lilia over the last few months. Was Hospice involved and where did she go? Thank you so much for all the devotion and love you showed Lilia, particularly as she declined in health!!! Sincerely, Doris Weller
I really enjoyed taking care of Lilia and really learned alot from her during the time that I took care of her. She was an amazing woman and will miss her very much. can remeber the times that Chiquita would go to her to get her treats and how she would wake her at times to get a treat.
