76, passed away at his home in Wichita, Kansas, Saturday, September 15, 2018. His cause of death was melanoma cancer. Richard was born February 26, 1942 in Wichita, Kansas. He was a member of the class of 1960 at Wichita North High. He was the oldest of three children. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Milan and Kathryn Zackula, and daughters, Kelly Mingle and Jamie Zackula. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Zackula of Wichita; stepdaughter, Annette (Clifton) Hartzog of Wichita; stepson, Larry (Traci) Nelson of Greensboro, NC; sister, Carolyn Tschetter of Wichita; brother, Tom (Virginia) Zackula of Wichita; six grandchildren, Zackary (Jessica) Nelson, Zane Nelson, Zeth Nelson, McKenzie Hartzog, Alexis Hartzog, Carson DeMuth; 3 great-grandchildren. Richard retired after working 48 years at Kansas Truck Equipment Company/Mobility. He had a long career of helping customers with bus and mobility equipment issues. Richard’s passion was working in his garage building cars, restoring cars and the racing community. For years, he traveled to car shows where he displayed his cars and won many awards for his accomplishments. If you asked him, however, the friendships he developed along the way were the biggest prizes. His friends were very important to him. He was the go to person for family and friends in need for advice or help with any problem. His advice came with pleasure and patience. Richard loved to spend time with his wife, Dawn, and other family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren, whether it be four wheeling in Colorado, the yearly trip to Table Rock Lake, or attending their many sporting events. Richard “Zack” was a wonderful husband, brother, dad, grandfather and friend. He will be missed greatly. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Thursday, September 20, 2018. I am So sorry for your loss. I can almost hear Jamies laughter welcoming her Dad home. I was friends with Jamie and she was a great loving person. We worked @ New Horizons in Valley Center ks. Loss touch briefly. My Mother came home from her Doctor appointment talking about the new Redhead nurse and how her laugh could make her feel like a million bucks. She talked about her Dad often. God Welcomes home another Amazing Angel
Im so sorry for your familys loss. Zack was a awesome man. His daughter Kelly and I were good friends. He will be missed.
I knew Zack for over 50 yrs. I remember his El Camino–he kept it immaculate. He was a great mechanic, a racing enthusiast, and I went to the races many times when he was in the pit crew; particularly the year they won the Kansas State Championship. I recall fishing with him at Howard, Ks, in the Elk River & Rock Creek south of town; he was a very good fisherman. One time we even went to Table Rock Lake and went fishing. Many times I stopped at Ks. Truck to say hi to him and catch up. So many great memories! As I watched the video, many memories came back, and I saw the love in the family pictures. He will be missed by many. I extend my condolences to Dawn and the rest of their family. I could say a lot more, but, he was a great person and he was instrumental in my junior high and high school years. Thanks, Zack. I will remember the many, many Thanksgiving Day and Xmas Day dinners, and my nieces Jamie Lynn and Kelly Ann. As Jamie grew older, her and her dad had a special connection. Your friend, Gary Curmode
