Mary Bussey The Life and Times of Mary Frances (Stegman) Bussey She has finished her miserable pursuit. Born August 9, 1948. Went to be at Jesus’ birthday party, December 21, 2018. Married James M. Bussey, May 22, 1971. . .the smartest thing she ever did. Graduated from Wichita State University in 1971 with a degree in elementary education. Was hired by All Saints to teach 3rd and 4th grades the first year there. The second year she taught 7th and 8th grades. So much for elementary education, it wasnt that much fun. She moved around doing several different jobs including proofreading for a printing company, bookkeeping for a plumbing company, and teaching adults at Wichita Business College before she went to work for McGraw-Hill Publishing as a construction news reporter. She stayed there over 12 years, until the company shut down the Wichita office. Just before the turn of the century, she decided to try the insurance business. She went to work being a Farmers Insurance agent, then as a AAA insurance agent where she had some success until they pulled their business out of Kansas. At that point she went into agency with American National Insurance Co. It didnt work out, so she went to work for a State Farm agent. Tiring of the insurance business, she left there and kicked around doing various jobs until she retired in 2014. They adopted Adam Jude Bussey when he was 3 days old on February 25, 1979. The first thing he did was give her a hosing down when she went to change his diaper the first time! In her personal life, Mary enjoyed all sorts of activities with family and friends, especially scheming on how to mess with people on their birthdays. She was very creative such as waking the birthday person up at 3 a.m. with friends standing around their bed weeping and holding candles as if they had passed away. Then there was her most creative invention, an event called THE MISERABLE PRUSUIT. This was a day of activities that was put on for several years. It was an all-day scavenger hunt for information. The information collected throughout the day was clues to a “who done it” murder mystery. The day culminated with the losing team getting pies in their faces from the winners. This shows how ornery and again creative and fun-loving she was. Mary dearly loved her family. Her grandson Austin couldnt say Mary when he was little, so he called her Mimi. The name stuck, and now grandbaby number two, Marshall, calls her Mimi, also. She enjoyed being pampered by her nieces: Jennifer doing her hair, Nicole her nails, and Janelle massages. She was truly spoiled, and she really did deserve to be. Generous to a fault, she never met a stranger. She would go to stand in line to purchase something and before long she knew everyone in the line by name. Her favorite pastimes before she became ill were flower gardening, reading murder mysteries, a little bourbon, an occasional wine, spoiling the dog, Cooper, with massages, cheering on the Chiefs and the Dodgers, and playing slot machines. After she became mostly homebound, she enjoyed the Hallmark Channel which has Murder She Wrote and all kinds of Christmas movies. She also enjoyed having total control of the volume of the television. Marys medical history goes like this: a heart attack in 2003, an unnecessary kidney removal in 2013, two strokes in the same day in July of 2015, 128 days of rehab after the strokes, diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer in December of 2014, and survived for three and one-half years paralyzed on her left side. She was one tough, little lady who was loved by us all.
