Steve Hatchett, of Hatchett Buick GMC, 70, died Monday, October 1, 2018. Memorial Service will be at 4:00 pm, Friday, October 5, 2018, at Hillside Christian Church. Steven Alan Hatchett was born April 7, 1948 in Lamar, CO to Gernie and Maurine Hatchett and spent his early years in Springfield, Baca County, CO. When he was fifteen, his father passed away and Steve and his mother moved to Wichita. He joined the golf team at Southeast High School, receiving a golf scholarship to Wichita State University. He made many lifelong friends and team victories in these early years. Upon graduation from WSU, Steve took a job as golf pro and then became the club manager at Crestview Country Club. It was during these years that he developed friendships with many Wichita business people. The Scholfield brothers, Dick and Vic, asked Steve to join their team as Sales Manager and soon after became a managing partner. The years of hard work and a great partnership brought Scholfield Auto Group many great successes and the organization flourished to become known as one of the most successful auto groups in the Midwest. Steve became a well-known philanthropist giving his strong support to many childrens organizations including the newly formed First Tee of Wichita. He was also well known in the golf community and served proudly as president of the TransMiss Golf Association. Steves first priority in life was his family. His grandchildren brought him great joy! His nephew has said, "Steve was a man I looked up to for as long as I knew him. To me he is the definition of class and caring. He had such a big heart for his family and everyone, and was a model of how to carry success well." Steve was preceded in death by his brother, Arlon Hatchett. Survived by his wife, Janet Hatchett of Wichita, KS; sons, Scott (Jenny) Hatchett, Clint (Stephanie) Ayesh, Matthew (Ashley) Hatchett; daughter, Stacey (Steve) Benjamin; sister, Judy (Jim) Edlund; 7 grandchildren. 1. Steve- When I moved back to Andover, through Clint and the rest of the gang, you met us and embraced myself and Cayla as if we had been a part of your life forever. I have always had a special place in my heart for you and Janet for welcoming us into your home. You will be missed, talked about forever and never forgotten my friend. We will drink a pint in your honor in Kinsale, Ireland and toast you in Wichita. Thank you for being you and bringing smiles, love and laughter to everyone you have touched. There will never be another and that is good with me. God Bless and RIP.

  2. I first met Steve in the 1970s and purchased my first car, a 1975 Pontiac Firebird, and then traded the 75 for my 1978 Trans AM through his guidance and his laughter – both times. Ive never forgotten that experience and have very fond memories of him. He was a good man and will be greatly missed. My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you all.

  3. I grew up with Steve in Springfield CO. My G. Grandmother babysat him along with me. We shared our childhood along with many other kids that loved Steve. We were neighbors, childhood friends, and even after they left Springfield he left such a lasting impression on so many of us. May you Rest In Peace my sweet friend.
