Mary Ann Defebaugh, 87, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died Monday, July 15, 2019. Rosary will be at 6:00 pm, Sunday, July 21, 2019; Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 pm, Monday, July 22, 2019, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Lee Defebaugh; parents, Casper and Rosa Heimerman; brother, Sylvester Heimerman; sister, Rosalene Beat. Survived by her daughter, Ellen (David) Newsom of Sedgwick, KS; son, Patrick (Beth) Defebaugh of Towanda, KS; grandchildren, Shane (Aleasha) Newsom, Caleb Newsom, Tara (Joel) Spedding; great-grandchildren, Harper Newsom, Charlie Spedding; sister, Margaret Helten of Cheney, KS. Mary Ann was born in Mt. Vernon, KS on her family farm. After moving to Wichita, she met and married Marvin. Mary Ann was a long-time member of St Joseph parish. She was an ever-present part of the parish as a Girl Scout leader, Altar Society member, Perpetual Adoration coordinator, working funeral dinners and parish dinner cook. She was an avid quilter both at home and with the quilting ladies group at church. Mary Ann and Marvin loved to camp with family at Cheney Lake. They also enjoyed travelling with the children. Mary Ann continued her love of travelling after Marvin passed. She went on many annual “mystery tour” bus trips with her siblings and friends. They travelled all over the United States. They travelled to Alaska and Canada on a month-long bus and cruise tour just after her retirement. She had travelled to over 40 states and 2 adjoining countries and has never been on an airplane. After retirement she still did her annual trips. Mary Ann was a loving mom and her favorite thing was being a grandma. She watched the grandsons in the summer and from pre-school on. Spoiling them was her specialty. Mary Ann was a fabulous cook and baker and loved having family dinners. Mary Ann loved to play pitch with family and friends. She even belonged to a ladies pitch group. Memorials have been established with: St. Joseph Catholic Church, 132 S. Millwood, Wichita, KS, 67213; Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S.
