Reverend Doctor Phillip Lamar, 82, Retired Pastor in the United Church of Christ and Manager of the Chaplain Department at Via Christi St. Francis for 25 years, died Saturday, October 20, 2018. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Pilgrim Congregational Church. Phillip graduated from Boston University and received his Doctorate from San Francisco Theological Seminary. He did his internship as a Chaplain at University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ and the Residency Chaplain at Prairie View in Newton, KS. Phillip was a member of the College of Chaplains, a past President of the Rotary in Newton, KS, named to the “Whos Who in Religion,” and served on many non-profit agencies and boards. He also served churches in California, Illinois, Missouri, and Arizona in the United Church of Christ. Preceded in death by his parents, siblings, his son, Daniel Phillip Lamar, and his daughter, Diahann Marie Lamar. Survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue Lamar, whom he wed in 1969; children, Douglas Phillip Lamar, Steven Phillip Lamar, David Phillip Lamar, Denyse Michelle Lamar, Joyce Pere of Nairobi, Kenya; grandchildren, Kali, Vazia, Phoenix. A memorial has been established for Phillips grandchildren who have special needs. Checks can be made out to Sue Lamar c/o Sunflower Bank, 4101 E. Harry, Wichita, KS 67218.   1. Phil had always been a good friend, a confidant with whom I could share and always trust. I have many wonderful memories of working with Phil, having private times together and numerous times when we had played tennis. My thoughts and prayers are with Sue and all the family.

  4. I have known Phil and his family for a long time. He was the Minister of the church I attended in Newton, KS growing up. I graduated from high school with his son David. Phil and Sue are like my second parents. Phil was easy to talk with and always felt that he listened to what a person had to say. You will truly be missed … the world needs alot more people like you! Sending my thoughts and prayers to the family that have lost this very special person.
