Sterling M. “Bob” Friedman, 91, died Sunday, October 22, 2017 in Wichita, KS, just a few days before his 66th wedding anniversary. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Congregation Emanu-El. Bob was born in St. Louis, MO on January 1, 1926, the younger of two children of Samuel and Ida Seidel Friedman. He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in Business Administration. Upon completion, he was awarded Outstanding Senior by the Washington University Business School. Bob met Charlotte Horwitz in the summer of 1951 and they married on October 28, 1951. Bob and Charlotte moved to Wichita in 1959, where he and his brother-in-law, Robert Gelman, founded Kansas Truck Equipment Co., Inc. They served as the exclusive Blue Bird school bus distributor for Kansas, which continues to this day. They also founded Kansas Transit which transformed a variety of vehicles for the handicapped. Additionally, through the Temple Emanu-El Brotherhood, Bob founded Celebrity Series, a speakers program that brought in renowned entertainers, political figures, and authors to Wichita. Bob enjoyed traveling with Charlotte and their children, especially to his favorite destination - Aspen, CO. Bob was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following current events. He led by example through his devotion to Charlotte, his strong work ethic, and kindness to others. His highest priority was taking care of his family, all of whom will miss him dearly. Bob is survived by his wife, Charlotte; and his children, Carol, Tom, David (Marlene), and Richard (Nancy). He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Lauren, Ben, Arielle, Allie, Lindsey, Sam, and Rachel. Bob is also survived by his sister-in-law, Dorismae Friedman; brother-in-law, Robert Gelman; sister-in-law, Bernie Gelman; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Ida Friedman; brother, Harvey Friedman; and grandson, Joshua Moore. The family wishes to thank the staffs at Larksfield Place and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice for their caring and kindness.
