Charles E. Chuck Miller

November 17, 1959 ~ February 3, 2020
VALLEY CENTER - Charles Edward “Chuck” Miller, 60, surrounded by his loving family, slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Monday, February 3, 2020. He fought a courageous three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Chuck was born November 17, 1959, at St. Francis hospital in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas, to Hugh E. and Glendene K. (Enochs) Miller. Chuck attended Black Elementary, Hadley Middle School and North High School in Wichita, graduating in May of 1978. In November 1978, he hired on at Coleman Heating and Air as an assembler, eventually working up to Quality Engineer for the same company after it was bought by Johnson Controls, retiring in February 2019, after 40 years. While at work, Chuck enjoyed giving tours and sharing the history of the plant and was considered the plant historian. He received many training certificates including HVAC and ISO 9001. He married Deanna Rae Fisher, June 29, 1980, in the Federated Church, Whitewater, Kansas. The young couple started married life in Maize, Kansas, and while living there, welcomed a son, Matthew Brandon. After moving to Wichita, their youngest son, Michael Christopher, joined the family. Chuck was passionate about his family and friends, always willing to lend a hand, solve a problem or fix what needed fixing. While the children were in grade school, Chuck was involved in the Franklin Elementary PTA, serving as treasurer, vice president and president, as well as serving in City PTA as by laws chairman. The family moved to Valley Center where Chuck built a shop in the backyard and spent many enjoyable hours there, often having many projects going at once. One big project he completed was building a backyard deck. Chuck enjoyed researching his family history and helped organize family reunions in Arkansas with his cousins. A longtime member of Central Community Church, Chuck and his son Michael were involved in the tech team ministry for many years. Chuck enjoyed traveling and his favorite places to visit were Disney World in Florida, Disneyland in California and Kauai, Hawaii. Although he did love to travel, he was always ready to come home. Known as Papa to his grandchildren, he wanted to make sure they had everything they needed and wanted. He enjoyed spending time with them especially on the deck in the back yard watching them play. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Glendene Miller; father-in-law, Monte Fisher, and brother-in-law, Stephen Fisher. Chuck is survived by his wife and best friend of 39 years, Deanna of Valley Center, Kansas; sons, Matthew and Lauren Miller of Wichita, Kansas, and Michael and Michelle Miller of Valley Center, Kansas; grandchildren, Oliver Todd and Ella RaeAnn Miller of Valley Center, Kansas; sister, Glenda and Ken Robinson of Goddard, Kansas; nieces, Cindy Pilcher Dougherty, Lori Robinson Rudkin and Chris, and Staci Robinson all of Goddard, Kansas; great-nieces, Karen Dougherty and John Vann of Goddard, Kansas, Susan Dougherty Beyard and Rick of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Melanie Robinson of Goddard, Kansas; great-nephew, Jacob Kruger of Smithfield, Virginia; mother-in-law, Carolyn Fisher; sister-in-law, Deborah Fisher Buttel and Jerry, and nephew, Jereb Buttel all of Whitewater, Kansas; sister-in-law, Magda Fisher of Newton, Kansas; many aunts, uncles and cousins. Condolences to the Family. May our Lord Jesus bless you all. I have many wonderful memories of Chuck as we shared our long careers together with The Coleman Company & all of the other names our company has held. Now being known as Johnson Controls Incorporated. I have know Chuck for around forty years & we have been through a lot together good & bad. I will always remember his smile & pleasant personality as he worked for me & then I worked for him in later years. I hope to see you in our home above someday.
With our sympathy over the loss of our dear cousin Chuck. He will be missed greatly. Keeping all his family in our thoughts & prayers during such a time of sorrow. Love you all – Beth & Becky
I’m so sorry to hear of Chucks passing. It saddens my heart to know he is no longer with us. I so wish I could be there with you all. It is a great comfort knowing that one day we will see him again and especially that he is no longer suffering. I have lots of great memories from childhood and then more recent memories of visits here and family reunions in Arkansas. It seems so surreal. Prayers dear Deanna for comfort and peace. Much love to you all.
My sincere condolences to Chuck’s family on their loss. I was a friend of Chuck during our time at Wichita North High School.
Prayers for his family. He was a good friend when we were in school. May he rest in peace.
To my uncle fly away home
I had the pleasure of working with Chuck for over a decade. He had a kind and gentle spirit. I always appreciated how he showed his love for others and his enjoyment of a good day’s work. He is missed by so many here a Johnson Controls because he invested his efforts to befriend so many. He was quick with a joke, and he was always willing to lend a hand. Chuck very proud of the people and the history of where he worked. Countless customers have enjoyed Chuck as their tour guide as he would frequently spend an hour and a half walking groups through the factory telling them about our processes and about the long history of manufacturing here. One thing was very clear, as much as Chuck enjoyed the people he worked with, his family was loved even more. The way his face would light up when he talked about his grand children would make me smile. He loved his family with all of his heart. One thought of comfort during this time is to know that I’ll see Chuck again. May God bless the Miller family.
Wish we could be with you all. Uncle Ron was going to drive out but now we have ice storm. Oh how we will all miss Chuck. He was one of a kind and such a good person. We were all proud to call him our Nephew. Prayers and love to all. Aunt Sue Ellen, Uncle Ron and family.
I’m not sure how to express how deeply chuck’s loss affects me. My cousins passing leaves a big hole in my life.
The Quality Engineer group will never be the same “Chuck” was the best of the best. Hope you and Mickey are partying up there in heaven. You truly deserve your own Disney world.
With muy deepest sympathy.
My condolences to all of Chucks family and friends. Chuck you will be missed dearly.
I knew Chuck back in Hadley. I, like so many others, lost touch soon after schooling. This is a surprise, as is the news of any of our classmates’ passing, because he was/we are so young! RIP Chuck. You are missed by people you wouldn’t know miss you, like me. My condolences to his family.
Please accept our deepest condolences for your family’s loss.
