I served 4 years in the Air Force with Luke. I arrived at Ellsworth AFB in Feb 2002. Luke took the time to show me around the base, telling me what to expect in the shop. He put at me ease, just telling me to do my job and stay outta trouble, everything will be ok. I remember he was driving a black ford cobra, he loved that car. If i needed help on the flightline he would always lend a hand. He was also from Texas so we had that in common. Luke and his wife Debbie invited me and other young guys from the shop to eat dinner with them. They were very nice and made us feel like we were home. He was like a big brother, joking about my love for guns n roses at the time. he would even go as far to whistle that long intro to that gnr song, ‘patience’ occasionally. Once during a shop meeting Luke said he just wanted to come to work and then go home to spend time with his family, eating cereal watching cartoons with his son. He enjoyed simple things and had a heart of gold. I completed my enlistment in june 2005 and left south dakota. I found out though he had become a recruiter and was around Abilene. This was around November 2005. I called his office and pretended to be a colonel. stating that according to his military records he was a structural maintenance troop, level 5. We really needed him to leave recruiting immediately and come back to his profession. I had him going for a few minutes, then he just blurted, ‘KOSMO?!’ it was a good laugh for both of us. I lost touch with him over the years, i just recently joined fb. A friend who also served with Luke told me had passed away. My deepest condolences and respects to Luke’s family. Rest in heaven bro, we will embrace again one day
