Knapp, Richard L., 77, born December 17, 1931 in Emporia Kansas passed away peacefully on July 19, 2009 in Wichita surrounded by his loving family. Richard was a gentleman, dedicated husband, caring father, entrepreneur and life long learner. He was a painter, musician and Jayhawk basketball fan to the end. As a young man he earned his pilots license and maintained a love of aviation. He turned humble beginnings into a career of successful business ventures. He was a steadfast and unwavering provider for his best friend and wife Cerita. He was a patient, constant anchor for his daughters Wendi and Dana and sons-in-law Mark and Thanh. He adored his grandchildren Evelyn, Ian and Isaac mentoring them in the art of joke telling, drawing, piano and computer games. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by a close and dedicated extended family of sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Richard will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Services to celebrate Richardss life will be held on Friday, July 24 at 2 pm in the sanctuary at East Heights United Methodist Church, 4407 E Douglas Ave., Wichita, KS 67218-1009. Private graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to ESU Foundation at 1500 Highland St., Emporia, KS 66801 or East Heights United Methodist the Open Door at 4407 E Douglas Ave. Wichita, KS 67218-1009 in memory of Richard L. Knapp. Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Private graveside service will be held at a later date.
