Charles “Chuck” Edward Hein II, 72, father, husband, brother, uncle, friend, passed Tuesday, April 28, 2020. Rosary to be scheduled for a later date. His immediate family was able to celebrate his funeral mass in a private ceremony and graveside service on May 2, 2020. The homily for his service can be heard at http://sermons.ambassadorapp.com/sermon/349e0a626eecafe8. A celebration of life is planned for a time when we can all gather as a community to remember the impact Chuck made on each of our lives. Born July 21, 1947 at Wichita Hospital, Chuck was the first son of Charles and Margaret Ann. He grew up in St. Anthony Parish and fondly recalled his years in grade school there. Growing up, he earned the distinction of Eagle Scout. While studying was not his favorite past time, the religious brothers and sisters at Chaplain Kapaun Memorial High School influenced him greatly prior to his graduation in 1965. He went on to receive his Associates degree at Butler County Community Junior College. Choosing to continue his education, Chuck attended Wichita State University to study Engineering. While he left to serve in the Army as an Airborne Ranger in Asia from Aug 1966-July 1972, his love for the Shockers continued and has been passed on to his daughters. Upon his honorable discharge, Chuck and Jean raised their five daughters and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this June. He was an active steward in St. Francis of Assisi parish and was an anchor at daily mass and faithful to the Adoration chapel. Mr. Hein was a champion of faith in the youth and during his daughters’ high school years became engaged in CYO and TEC events. His leadership and fervor for TEC continued past his girls’ involvement. All his Wheat letters are still bundled for each weekend he had attended, and his TEC crosses remained fixtures in his room. The Knights of Columbus was another faith centered group that was an important part of Chuck’s life, and he attended activities and meetings as lifes activities and, later, his health would allow. Other past times that reflected Chuck’s appreciation for life and the people around him were fishing, poker, and anything that let him share his voice and volume. He was preceded in death by parents, Charles and Margaret Ann Hein. Chuck’s legacy lives on in his wife, Jean (Ast); daughters, Stacy (Christopher) Bennett, Shelley Hein, Erin (Jared) Weber, Juli (Michael) McClure and Jodi (Justin) McAninch all of Wichita, KS; brothers, James R. (Nancy) Hein of Goddard, Richard Thomas (Linda) Hein of Wichita, sister, Margaret Ann “Mickey” (Paul) Peters of Wichita; 14 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; many, many nieces and nephews. A memorial has been established with St. Francis of Assisi Parish and The Lord’s Diner both of Wichita, KS. Arrangements by Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.

  1. We were so sad to hear of Chuck’s passing. He was a really good and spiritual man. He really loved his 5 girls and was proud of them. He asked Mike and I to help him with the youth group, and the next thing we knew he had us doing more than helping him. Chuck was also a great carpenter!!! We will miss seeing Chuck around. May God be with you and your family. We know you have gone to a better place, and will have it ready for all of us.
