Langenwalter, Robert “Bob” G., 89, a long-time Wichita banker and entrepreneur, died April 6, 2014, in Wichita. He had lived at Larksfield Place, Wichita, for seven years. Bob is survived by his wife, Carolyn; children Nancy Lynch (husband Dan) of Beaufort, South Carolina, Elizabeth Rayl (husband Harris) of Kansas City, Missouri, Peter Langenwalter (wife Sarah) of Winfield, Kansas, and Wendy Thompson of Wichita. He is also survived by his first wife and mother of his children, Dorothy (Ream), along with 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son William. Bob also was preceded in death by siblings Ruth Dreier, Lois Holmes and Richard Langenwalter. Bob was born December 18, 1924, in Colorado Springs, Colorado, a son of Dr. J.H. and Jessie Langenwalter. He attended elementary school in Wichita, but graduated from high school in Reedley, California, where his family lived at the time. He served on a Navy destroyer during World War II, and took part in the battle for Leyte Gulf in the Philippines in 1944. He graduated from Wichita State University in 1950. Bob developed sports boat and travel shows in Wichita and Denver in the 1950s. He became vice president of the Kansas State Bank, Wichita, in 1961. He was president of the Wichita State Bank from 1965 to 1970. From 1972 to 1982, he owned the Central Bank and Trust Co. with business partner Ted Wells. During his business career, he was a campaign manager for U.S. Congressman Garner Shriver and a Kansas highway commissioner. He was executive director of Larksfield Place and served on its board of directors. Bob served on a number of other civic boards, including the Young Presidents Organization, Wichita Symphony, Wichita Art Museum, Wichita State University, Friends University, Wichita Chamber of Commerce, Wesley Medical Center, Rotary Club and Wichita Country Club. After retirement, he and Carolyn lived at Spring Hill Farm and Ranch, near Winfield. His long-time interests included flying, photography, travel, golf and gardening. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at First United Methodist Church, Wichita.
