Mary Ann Pistocco, 78, of Wichita, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2020. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Services will be held at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary, 6555 E. Central, Wichita on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will be available to be viewed Live. To view the service, please click the "Tribute Wall" link. Then click "Watch Now" in the gold "Live Webcast" box. She will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Old Mission Cemetery in Wichita. Mary Ann was born on July 1, 1941, in McAlester, Oklahoma to Sylvester Pistocco and Lena (Carano) Pistocco. She graduated from McAlester High School in 1960. She attended Oklahoma City University (OCU) for two years where she studied journalism. Mary Ann was a member of Delta Zeta, Freshman Queen, Sophomore Queen candidate, on staff of “The Campus,” editor of “The Keshena” Yearbook, and Vice President of the OCU Press Club. She married Randle Darrel Donica on August 4, 1963. Although they divorced several years later, Mary Ann and Darrel were always united in their support of their daughter, Kim. Mary Ann worked in radio and sales in Oklahoma City for years. Later in her life, she found her passion working in children’s ministry. She returned to OCU, going to school part time while working at the Federal Aviation Administration Academy at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center. Mary Ann graduated from the Wimberly School of Religion of Oklahoma City University on May 9, 1998 with a BA in Religion with a concentration in Religious Education. Mary Ann worked with several children’s ministries, including Redemption Kids, in Oklahoma City before her retirement from the FAA. After she retired, she moved to Wichita where she was an AmeriCorps volunteer working in local Title I schools, including Linwood Elementary. She also started “Racing to Read,” a weekly after-school program to supplement students’ reading education. When she was not volunteering her time, Mary Ann enjoyed traveling the country with friends on bus tours. Mary Ann is survived by her daughter, Kim (Troy) Farha, of Wichita; her grandson, Chase Farha; sister-in-law Marilyn Pistocco, of McAlester, Oklahoma; many extended family members; and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Lena Pistocco and recently by her brother, Jim Pistocco.
