Mary Jeannine Kopietz

April 4, 1942 ~ June 28, 2020
Mary Jeannine Kopietz, born April 4, 1942, passed on June 28, 2020 at 78 yrs. She was a lifelong resident of Wichita, a city she loved dearly. Jeannine graduated from Wichita University with a degree in sociology. She worked for Braniff Airlines out of college, then as a Social Worker for Kansas Children’s Service League. She married Gary Kipp in 1976 and became a part time employee for Wichita public library. At age 40 she became a survivor of Ovarian Cancer. When her marriage ended in divorce after 14 years, she returned to social work at Sedgwick County Comcare for many years. Once she retired from Comcare she became a Para-teacher at Wichita Public Schools then at Maize School System. For the last 10 year she found her passion working as a pet sitter. She loved all of her furry clients. Over her life time she rescued so many dogs and cats and also found homes for many when her social work clients could no longer care for them. She loved all dogs but especially her shelties and collies. Her two collies, Blair and Georgia survived her and will be taken care of by family members. Jeannine also always had a passion for anything Victorian - houses, furniture, clothes and other Victorian items. She indulged her love for Kansas history and olden times by volunteering at Cow Town.
She is survived by two sisters, Barbara Tearney (Mike) of Versailles, KY, and Judy Burnam (William) of Springfield, VA; niece, Teresa Burnam Treiber (Gerhard); nephews, Brett Burnam (Selena), Bryce Tearney (Sherie), and Flint Tearney (Dena); grand-nieces, Antonia Treiber, Oliva Burnam, Sophia Burnam and Quinn Burnam; and grand-nephews, Levi Tearney, Alexander Desmo Treiber and Felix Sebastian Treiber. Contributions in her honor may be made to Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside St., Wichita KS 67219. Services are at Church of the Blessed Sacrament 124 N Roosevelt St. Wichita on July 3rd at 10:00 am.
Jeannine Kopietz was our Social Worker when we adopted our son, Ryan, from Kansas Children’s Service League in 1974. I remember how kind and helpful she was!
