FRANCES JEAN NELSON January 6, 1926 - October 12, 2020 Frances Jean Nelson, known better as Jeanie from Wichita, Kansas went to be with Jesus on October 12, 2020. She was a young 94 years old. Jeanie met Jesus when she was a young girl and followed the Lord Jesus Christ with all her heart for over 80 years. Jeanie loved our dad, Gene Nelson so well! She loved and served her 5 children, friends, and church with distinction. Her laughter and giggles were contagious. She lived a life of gratitude; her kids never heard her complain. She never sought the spotlight. Instead her kids often saw her with a Bible in her chair as well as on her knees praying, a high priority that followed her all the days of her life! Young couples loved to be around Gene and Jeanie. Her desserts were well known at church gatherings. In fact, her desserts were so good that she had to hide them in the house from her kids until guests arrived. One of Jeanie’s favorite Scripture verses over the years was Jeremiah 33: 3 from the Old Testament: “Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things which you do not know.” Preceded in death by her husband Eugene Nelson; son Mark Nelson; parents, Elvis and Blanche Alley; brother, Charlie Alley; and grandson, Jessen Bergman. Survived by her children and their spouses, Brent Nelson (Cass) of Birmingham, AL, Kathy Bergman (Ross) of Brainerd, MN, Gary Nelson (Karen) of Florence, SC, Kristy Watkins (Jeff) of Bel Aire, KS; sister, Roylene LaBelle of Denver, CO, 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. By the grace of God Gene and Jeanie left a legacy of Christ followers. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with First Evangelical Free Church, 1825 N. Woodlawn, Wichita, KS, 67208 where Jeanie was an active member for over 50 years, and Our Lady of Peace Hospice, Attn: Lisa Sweeney, 2076 St. Anthony Ave., Saint Paul, MN 55104 where the staff took such great care of Jeanie in her last few days here on earth. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Downing and Lahey East Mortuary. Graveside service will be at 11 AM on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Old Mission Cemetery. Her family would love to see her friends at these times! As a family we grieve and yet we celebrate even more that our mom is in heaven forever because of Jesus’ death on the cross and His resurrection.

  1. I absolutely adored my Mother-in-law! How many can say that! I am thrilled she is in her heavenly home with her mother, husband, son, grandson, and many other loved ones! Thank you “mom” for your earthly example of knowing and being Christ to others!

  2. I felt an immediate fondness for Jean the day I met her at Sedgwick Plaza. Working at the front desk I observed her quiet confidence in the way she carried herself. But more than anything I will remember her intentional eye contact–it seemed deliberate and prayerful and she did not want to miss anything said. As happy as I was to see her in the halls, I was even happier when I watched her leave the residence to be settled in her daughter’s home. I knew she would be better served. Thank the Lord for His goodness to her and to your entire family for the gift of weeks and days and hours while she remained with you long enough for proper good byes. My heart was so touched to hear details of her passing from this life to the next where we will see her again most certainly. Praise to Him who does all things well. His loving kindness is better than life. Love to you Kristy and your entire family. Jana Rea

  3. I was so blessed to have had such a godly, sweet, kind, thoughtful and generous Mother. She quietly loved her family in her unassuming ways. She truly had a servants heart for us and to those around her. I will always be grateful to the Lord that she was my Mom and for the many years I was privileged to share with her. Love you always Mom!!!!!!! Im looking forward to that day when I enter into heaven and see Christ’s face and you and Dad and many others for our wonderful heavenly reunion. Love you “more”, Kristy

  4. I am so thankful I knew Jean at Sedgwick Plaza. She was a good friend, we enjoyed sharing our faith and life experiences. She is with Jesus now. Love to her family, Helen Perrin

  5. Our family came to know Jean when she lived on Lexington many years ago. Roger and our three children all mowed lawns together, and Jean was always appreciative of our family’s efforts at her home. There was no doubt she lived her life following God. She was the kind of person anyone would want for a neighbor. Debby and Roger Smith Mark, Scott, Molly

  6. Jean was a lovely Cristian woman. I happy to have known her while she lived at Sedgwick Plaza. Helen Perrin
