Richard (Dick) L. Adkisson May 12, 1931 - November 13, 2020 Wichita, KS - Richard passed away on November 13 at the age of 89. Richard was born in Wichita to Myron and Irene Adkisson and lived in Wichita his entire life. He graduated from Wichita North High School and Wichita State University where he played on the golf team for three years, sang in the A Cappella choir and was a member of the WSU lettermen’s club. Richard proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Following the Navy, he worked at Coleman Company before moving onto what he would tell everyone was his favorite position as the manager of the bookstore at Wichita State University. After 15 years, he moved onto his final career before retirement working as a salesman for Butler Paper Company for 20 years. Richard’s favorite past time had always been playing golf. One of his most prized memories was playing in the NCAA National Men’s Golf Tournament at Broadmoor in 1953. After college, he continued to play in various tournaments and on several men’s teams, where he created life-long friendships with those who shared his great love for the game. He continued his support of Wichita State athletics throughout his life. He attended many events with family members, including following the men’s basketball team to numerous NCAA March Madness tournament games around the US. As an active member of the community, Richard completed a great amount of charity work through his participation in a Jaycee group. He also continued his membership in the WSU Lettermen’s club in his later years. Richard cared deeply about his involvement in the church. Growing up, his mother was a youth director at Trinity Methodist Church in Wichita, where he later became a prominent member of the church board. Most recently, he was an active member of Westwood Presbyterian Church with his wife Cheryl where he enjoyed being part of the lunch group and spending time with friends who felt like family. Richard is survived by his wife Cheryl, brother L. Dean Adkisson, children Don (Joan) Adkisson, Lynn Staudt, and Mike (Sherri) Huckleberry, grandchildren Nicole (Kyle) McNeely, Brent (Brooke) Adkisson, Brendan Staudt, Meghan Staudt, Brody Huckleberry and Cameron Huckleberry and three great-grandchildren. He was beloved by his family and never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law Bill Staudt. A memorial service for the immediate family will be held at Westwood Presbyterian Church. A celebration of life for Richard will be held at a later date.
