Hazel (Cassingham) Bennett, 100, was promoted to eternity on November 13, 2020. She was born on August 1, 1920, in Wilson County, Kansas, to Albert and Laura (Crawford) Cassingham. She graduated from Chanute High School in 1938 and married Clifford Bennett on December 10, 1938. They were married 57 years until his death in 1996. Hazel and Clifford moved to Wichita, in the early 1940s. Hazel worked at Laurco Fabrics for 23 years. They attended Bethany UMC where they faithfully served for many years. Hazel loved serving at church, quilting, needlework and especially spending time with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Robert Bennett; grandson, Adam Bennett; and brothers Carl and Earl Cassingham. Survivors: Son, Warren (Carol) Bennett; daughter, Diane (Wayne) Roberts; daughter-in-law, Carol Bennett; grandchildren, Victor (Rhonda) Bennett, Jennifer Bennett, Justin Franks, Tiffany Franks and Laura (David) Mayeux. Burial has taken place. Memorial Service at Downing & Lahey East, 6555 E. Central, Wichita, KS, on December 11, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. Social distancing will be observed and masks encouraged. Memorials to the Salvation Army, 350 N. Market, Wichita, KS 67202; and Harry Hynes Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.

  1. My goodness. I remember Hazel, of course, having grown up with Diane. We were in Brownies and Girl Scouts together. Our Moms car-pooled. Hazel was so pretty and so funny! Loved her sense of humor. If a Mom can joke around with teenage girls and make them laugh, you’ve got a wonderful sense of humor. She’s a guardian angel now and reunited with her loved ones who have gone before. RIP, Hazel. You will be missed.

  2. I remember Hazel and my mom talking together. Hazel gave my mom a a little book called Grace for the moment. It has devotions for each day. I have it now and read it often. Hazel was a very godly woman. She will be remembered. With love Mary Frazier
