Dorothy Marie Hilderbrand was born on May 23, 1939, in rural Miami, Oklahoma. She attended C.C.C.H.S. in Columbus, Kansas, where she graduated 1957. Dorothy married William L. Hilderbrand on August 18, 1957, in Faulkner, Kansas. They had a son, David Wayne Hilderbrand, born on January 4, 1959. Dorothy received her LPN license in 1965 from KU Med Center and worked at the Lakeside Hospital in the KC area. Upon moving to Carthage, Missouri, she worked for a doctor’s office before going to work at McCune-Brooks Hospital while attending Pittsburg State University where she received her BSN in nursing in 1989. Dorothy was a member of the Duenweg Christian Church. In 2013, she moved to Wichita, Kansas, to be closer to her son. Here she enjoyed the shopping and outings with other friends from her independent living community, and especially enjoyed her Bingo, taking art classes, and teaching others how to make homemade greeting cards. She was a member of Northwest Christian Church in Wichita. Dorothy is survived by her son, David Wayne Hilderbrand and his wife, Bobbi, of Wichita; one sister, Mary Holtzen of Miami, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Donna (Hilderbrand) Mintz and her husband, Lloyd, of Merritt Island, FL; brothers-in-law, Robert Hilderbrand of Wichita and Terry Hilderbrand and his wife, Michelle, of Faulkner, KS; a number of nieces and nephews, and a cousin, Barbara Welch of Joplin, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Hilderbrand in 2007; father, George Maynard Fell in 1984; mother, Susie Marie (Draeger) Fell in 1999, and brother, Orvil Lee Fell in 1950. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. David and Bobbi We were so saddened to read of your mother’s passing in the Joplin Globe this morning….so many times since she moved we would wonder how she was doing because of her medical situations….We were so happy to have them as neighbors since we had been church friends for many years prior to that. Lots of visits, laughs and good memories. Even though we missed her, we were happy that she was able to live close to you. Her home just changed hands again in the last month with another young family moving in….relatives to the Bruton family that I’m sure she knew through Fairview Christian. Know that we have good memories of both Bill and Dorothy. Also know that you are in our thoughts and prayers at this time. In Christian love…………………Larry and Karen Catron
