Richard "Rich" Dennis Sheahon

Graveside Service will follow at 1:30 PM, at Gypsum Hill Cemetery, Salina, KS.
Rich was born at Waconda Springs, KS, the eldest child to Dick and Jean Sheahon. Growing up, Rich lived in Damar and Salina, KS. He excelled in academics and athletics in high school at Sacred Heart in Salina. While attending Washburn University, Rich started working at a new restaurant named “Pizza Hut.” His Pizza Hut career would take him from making pizza’s in college to Vice President of Pizza Hut International. After his Pizza Hut career, Rich worked in the restaurant industry for many years, from opening his own restaurants, to building out franchises, to managing the supply chains for Midwest food service businesses. Whether playing sports or at work, he was a leader - quiet, humble, and always leading by example.
Rich was a man who did not have enemies nor know strangers. If you met him, you’d never forget him. As an older man, he laughed at how his grandsons thought he looked like the Quaker Oats Man with white hair and wild eyebrows. He was gentle in spirit, kind, friendly, funny, and generous.
Rich met Julie in the 8th grade, and a lifelong love story began. Rich created a life with his family filled with love, optimism, joy, laughter, silliness, kindness, and many memorable road trips across the country to visit family. Rich and Julie would celebrate their 55th anniversary this year. They taught their daughters marriage takes work, but is worth it in the end.
Overall, Rich’s greatest love was his family. He was a nonstop supporter of his siblings in everything they did throughout their lives. He was a constant presence at his nieces, nephews and grandchildren’s sporting and school events. But he really had a special love for his grandchildren. As Grandpa, he cheered on Christopher in sports and school and later when he was commissioned an Officer in the United States Army. He supported Catherine in her volleyball matches and proud she was studying to be a nurse like her Grammy. As Pop-Pop, he taught Elliott and Luke how to say nighttime prayers, play golf, and how to throw a football. He taught them all to say “no bites,” and to eat dessert - especially ice cream - before dinner. He loved all of his family unconditionally, beyond words.
He truly was the best Husband, Dad, Son, Brother, Uncle Rich and Friend. He was our Hero. Our Champion. And he will be immensely missed.
Preceded in death by his parents, Richard “Dick” and Arlene “Jean” (Pehowic) Sheahon; sister, Joan Wood.
Survived by his wife, Julie Sheahon of Wichita; daughters, Heather (Mick) Whelan of Carl Junction, MO, Meredith (Aaron) Mansfield of Wichita; brothers, Jack (Anita) Sheahon of Salina, Mike Sheahon of Lawrence, Steve (Bonnie) Sheahon of Wichita; sister, Mary Pat (Jim) Weese of Salina; brother in-law Terry Wood, Topeka, KS; grandchildren, Christopher Whelan, Catherine Whelan, Elliott Mansfield, Luke Mansfield; aunts, Audra (Herb) Henderson of Middletown, PA, Carol (Mark) Boyer of Leawood, KS; 15 nieces and nephews; 23 great-nieces and nephews; and a large extended family, and many lifelong friends.

Rich was always so kind. Every time I saw him, even after some time between visits, he always remembered me and treated me as family. Go with God Rich! Love you Sheahons!
We have known Rich since he was in middle school. He would ride his bike over to our house to see Julie. Julie would be there to grade workbooks for her Aunt Carol. He would sit next to her as she graded. During high school he was a often visitor as Julie lived with us then. He was so special.
Julie- So sorry to see Rich has passed on. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Joyce Wakefield

Julie, sorry to read about Rich’s passing. We first met when he was Director of Training at PHI and worked together for many years on PH projects and on his new adventures post PHI. I always enjoyed our times together and learned a lot from him over the years.
Julie and Family, very sorry to hear of Rich’s passing. Rich has been and will continue to be a treasure trove of great memories for me. From our ears of athletic endeavors from the days of Salina’s city league baseball to the hardwood floors of SHHS basketball he was the ultimate team mate. What a phenomenal athlete he was and also a great friend. I always looked forward to our class reunions where we could reminisce about our glory days at SHHS. He will be greatly missed. Larry Dreiling (SHHS 1965)
Just a note that all in the Walt’s family are grieving Rich’s passing. We are all going to miss you mightily “Fuzzy”. Just the nicest, most caring, and engagingly humorous guy you could ever hope to meet. God Speed, Mr. Sheahon.
My Deepest Condolences to the Sheahon Family. Richard was a Wonderful Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Brother-in-law. He was a Kind, Caring man, who was laid back, Funny, and never seemed to meet a stranger. He Welcomed you into his life and home! May he now, Rest in Peace, in his Eternal Home. May his Memory, live on, in the Hearts of those who Loved him. Those who were Graced, by his Love, were Truly Blessed! Healing Prayers for All
Julie, Heather and Meredith, holding you all close in prayer…especially in the coming days, weeks and months ahead. Nothing prepares you for times like these, but I pray you feel the strength, peace and grace of God. Heaven gained a giant of man…with the humblest of hearts. Love you all!
Julie, my name is Bernie Zaleski and I met Richard at the Cigar Humidor years ago. He was always fun to talk to and had some very interesting stories that I enjoyed. He always spoke highly of you, his children, and his grandchildren. My wife and I live in Lakepoint, on Cross Creek Cir., I remember you and Richard had a house north of us on the “rich” side of Lakepoint. I am really sorry to hear of his passing but I am sure he is in a more peaceful place. God Bless you and your families. -Bernie Zaleski 316-516-8081
