Carol Ann Blackmore

May 27, 1935 ~ January 24, 2021
Carol Ann Blackmore was born May 27, 1935 and died on January 24th, 2021 at the age of 85 after a long struggle with dementia. She was born to Clara Frances (Schild-Weber) and Ernest Monford (Monty) Blackmore at the Wichita Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Carol Ann’s mother had been married prior to marrying Monty and had 4 children before her first husband Floran Weber died of tuberculosis April 6th, 1926. Carol Ann had two half-brothers, Harlan Weber and Bernard Weber, as well as two half-sisters Mary Jean (Weber) Wilson and Celesta (Weber) Cranmer who are all deceased. Carol Ann also had an older sister named Rose Marie (Blackmore) Thesing who is deceased and a brother James Blackmore who died shortly after his birth. Carol Ann attended Blessed Sacrament grade school and graduated from All Saints grade school in 1949 and Cathedral High School in 1953. She began her work career at Maule Drug in Wichita at the corner of Hillside and Lincoln. She then went to work for the accounting firm of Bonicamp, Koelling & Smith as a secretary. Throughout her career she worked as an executive secretary at various other accounting firms including Coffman, Kocour and Taylor in Wichita which then became Elmer Fox and Company. In 1968, Carol Ann moved to the Los Angeles, California area and worked as an executive secretary for accounting firms Elmer Fox & Company, Westheimer and also Price Waterhouse. Her dad came to live with her in the 1980’s and stayed with her until the mid 1990’s when he went to a care home in California and died in 1997. She retired in the mid 1990’s and subsequently moved to the Denver, Colorado area around 2000. After several years in the Denver area, she ended up moving back to the Wichita area in the early 2000’s. She then went to work at Isisport, a small sports clothing manufacturer in the Dallas / Fort Worth area, that had been founded by a colleague she had worked with. In 2004, she left this job to come back to Wichita to care for her half-sister, Celesta, who was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. After caring for Celesta in Celesta’s home for nearly a year, she returned to Isisport in the Dallas / Fort Worth area and worked several more years. In 2007 she returned to Wichita, Kansas and lived at Finch Hollow in her retirement. By 2011, due to her dementia, she moved into Medicalodge of Goddard nursing home where she received loving care until her death. During the 1960’s, while living in Wichita, she lived at her sister Rose Marie and her brother-in-law Henry’s house and helped out with raising their six children, Bob, Jeanne, Rick, Mike, Cheryl, and Jim. Carol Ann’s residence in California was always available for these young adults many times over the years. Her residence was always a welcoming place for family and friends to visit on vacation. Carol Ann had a great love of budgies (parakeets). Over the years she had many of them that she cared for diligently. Two of those birds got to move with her to the care home in Goddard. Carol Ann was a faithful Catholic over her entire lifetime. She had special devotion to Saint Faustina as well as God the Father. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Church of The Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Goddard. Inurnment has taken place at Calvary Cemetery.
May GOD have Mercy on Carol Ann, His fathful servant. An old friend-Dave Bell
Carol Ann Blackmore, aka Aunt Kay. Single, no children, although she “mothered” every one of her nieces and nephews, along with a few other people’s kids, enough to qualify her as “Mom”, Ok, “Coolest Aunt”! I’m pretty sure my family with six kids challenged her as close to the nth degree…often. We definitely are responsible for her worst ear & sinus infection, ever! She was an animal lover, especially Budgie Parakeets. Cats, not so much, oh, and lizards too. True to her nature she still found the good in them-just as she did with any and everyone, and everything she did. Even though Kansas was her home and family, she felt overshadowed and just simply adequate. So, when the job opportunity to move to California came up, despite overwhelming, adverse opposition, she jumped on it! She thrived! California embraced her! Company came in droves and she took great delight in showcasing her new home – that revolving door was rivaled only by Union Station! I could go on for volumes detailing Carol Ann’s life, I chose to glean one of her brightest, proudest, and happiest pages. I would like to leave any and everyone who was lucky enough to cross her path the following: “Carol Ann “Kay” Blackmore Signatures” -Seafoam, light green, brass colored trim, hardened luggage with matching Train Case -Dark Turquoise/Blue crew blouse, with black Capri pants -60’s something Brown Corvair Car -Singing & Harmonizing w/Rose Marie, (the pretty one), Xmas “Carol’s, all the while dealing with unruly choir Angel’s -Circus….or not? -Parakeets, Budgie, male/female, blue, green, yellow, etc. Did I mention Parakeets? -Bathing-NOT SHOWERING!
