Mary M. Henry

June 2, 1959 ~ March 7, 2021
Mary M. Henry, of Cheney, Kansas, was called to heaven on Sunday, March 7, 2021. She was born in Atchison, Kansas to Robert and Kathleen Henry. She graduated from the Mount St. Scholastica Academy, and then from Benedictine College before starting her career that for most of her life was as a business analyst in the health insurance industry in both Kansas City and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Although she led a very humble life, that life was always centered on her Catholic Faith and her love of her St. Elizabeth Ann Seton faith community. This was no more evident than in her close bonds with those in the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Music Ministry where she sang in the choir, as she had done in each of the parishes she served throughout her life. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Kathleen Henry. She is survived by her three brothers, Robert of Canton, Massachusetts, Joseph (and Martha) of Wausau, Wisconsin, and Timothy (and Shanna) of Cheney, Kansas, along with her five nieces and nephews whom she adored. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10am, March 12th at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, preceded by a Rosary at 9:30am. A memorial has been set up in lieu of flowers for Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish Music Ministry Fund. Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
I will certainly miss Mary’s beautiful voice in the soprano section of choir. She was always encouraging me to reach the high notes but I could never do them justice as she did in clear tone & perfect pitch! She will now be singing happy Hosanna’s in God’s choir. My sympathies to all the family. Lucia Biehler
Bob, Joe, and Tim. So sorry to learn of Mary’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.
I was Mary’s karate teacher for many years. I promoted her to a Fourth Degree black belt and she assisted with teaching our class as well. Mary win more trophies won in karate tournaments than any one from our club in the 35 years I was the head instructor of our club. More importantly, she was a dear friend and wonderful lady who strived everyday to be a better person everyday of her life. I was honored to know her. Rest In Peace, my dear friend.
We usually go to 11:00 Mass on Sunday and when I arrive I always check to see if Mary and Lisa were singing. Most of the time they are the cantors at that Mass and I know that the music would be angelic and take me into an awareness of the presence of God. We met each other after Mass one day when I sought her out to thank her for such beautiful music. Bit by bit we were getting to know each other. There was something very special about her – she was such a gentle, humble soul who had a particular gift for listening attentively. I always looked forward to seeing her and somehow you always expect to be friends for a long time. Her death affected me in a powerful way and I will miss her very much. What a blessing she was to SEAS – it won’t be quite the same without her. Kim Black
