Larry was born September 4, 1943 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Raymond and Olga Hollis. Growing up in a military family, he moved a lot in his early childhood. They finally settled in Kansas, where he graduated from Derby High School. After serving in the Navy, he attended Washburn University and was a founding member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at Washburn. He went on to graduate from Washburn University School of Law.
Larry practiced law in Wichita focusing on Family Law for much of his career. He was also an attorney for Urban Renewal. After retiring from private practice, he served as the Family Law Hearing Officer for Sedgwick Country until his retirement in 2019. He had a heart for the kids and being a voice for them during the difficult circumstances of divorce. Larry also served as a Municipal Judge for the City of Eastborough for over 30 years.
Larry was a long-time member of the Wichita Wagonmasters and proudly served as a “Cookie,” Captain and Honorary Commodore. He was a BBQ enthusiast and consummate fisherman. He loved his time on the lake in his boat with many friends and family over the years. He was a devoted Papa to his four beautiful grandchildren and loved them well. He loved his tradition of giving his birthdays to them and gifted them with gifts, love, and affection.
Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda. His children, Chris (Heather) Hollis, Brooke (Chris) Howell; grandchildren, Parker Howell, Evan Hollis, Brecken Howell, and Walker Howell; sister, Peggy (Jack) Crownover; brother, Kenneth Hollis M.D.; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Wichita, KS Chapter, Us TOO Intl., Inc. (Prostate Cancer Support Group Wichita), c/o any Intrust Bank in the Wichita Area.
Larry was voice of reason, wisdom and compassion to the Wichita Prostate Cancer Support Group. He was a guiding light and through his direction, leadership and support eased the journey of numerous men, their families and friends through the trials and tribulations of dealing with prostate cancer. My heart is sad as I join our fellow Board of Directors and members expressing condolences to Larry’s family and in mourning Larry’s passing but celebrating his life and accomplishments. Larry will be greatly missed. Harold Ruhl, Chairman, Wichita Prostate Cancer Support Group

Linda, I was so sorry to hear about Larry’s passing. You and the kids are in my thoughts and prayers.
Larry was a close friend of my ex husband Larry Williams back in the early 60’s here in Riverside, California. I believe they both joined the navy around the same time. He visited us back in the early 90’s for a brief visit. He reached out to my sister-in-law who put him in touch with me just a few months ago. My thoughts snd prayers are with you all. He had an incredible life and family. He was very close to the Williams family during those early years. Fond memories.
Our family enjoyed spending time with Larry at Rockwood swim meets and father gatherings. He will be greatly missed. The Kahrs family
