David Benjamin Bumpurs

March 16, 1941 ~ March 13, 2021
David Benjamin Bumpurs, 79, co-founder and former President and CEO of Restoration & Waterproofing Contractors, Inc., died March 13, 2021. From his first job as a gas station attendant to the operator of a multi-state company that employed hundreds of people, David exemplified the American spirit of determination and seizing every opportunity. With two partners he incorporated Restoration & Waterproofing Contractors in 1974. Through the years, he based every business decision on the effect it would have on the employees. He was generous with his time and resources and was always able to relate to and accommodate employees who might be having personal or employment problems. His business objective was to provide the means for the employees to advance with the company and the opportunity to purchase stock and become part owners of the organization. His philosophy turned a small company into a thriving business that specializes in the restoring of historic buildings and as a sub-contractor to many large general contractors in the Midwest, providing waterproofing and other specialty services in new and existing construction. He was well known in the construction industry and was often called upon for his expert advice on how to solve a water problem in an existing structure. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.J. and Eunice Bumpurs. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Pamela Ann Bumpurs; son, David Ray (Amy) Bumpurs; grandchildren, Sierra Kae (Adam) Duncan, Vanessa Rae (Nathan) Tullis; great-granddaughters, Tatym and Arya; great-grandson, Ronin; sisters, Patsy (Ron) Muly and Susie Strohl. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at Central Community Church Chapel, 6100 W. Maple, Wichita, KS. A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association, 608 W. Douglas Ave., Ste. 100, Wichita, KS 67203. Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
I have been so lucky to have had such a wonderful Uncle! Always in my heart! -Christy
Bumpers was a good man. Every year at girl scout cookie time he would always say order him one of each. Mike says he will be missed especially their talks in the office. Hopefully Mike will have a good day and be able to attend but if not we send our sincere condolences. MIKE AND DENISE MORRIS
David was my friend and someone I looked up to. I will miss getting my daily sports news, fishing trips and old stories he always had to tell. He had helped me in so many ways throughout the years with my career, finances, family, and mental well being. He always had time to listen and give some of the greatest advice I’ve ever received. I am forever thankful for the opportunity to have known such a great man. I hope all of us here at RWC can live up to the reputation he created and I too can pass down some of the knowledge and insight he shared with me.
Dave was a wonderful man to know. He bought several cars from us and was a joy to deal with. His word was his bond. We are sure he will be greatly missed. God bless him and the whole Bumpurs family. From Dave, Mike and Rusty Johnson
