darin looper
Darin Looper, 53, peacefully passed away at his home in Wichita, Kansas, on Thursday, April 1st, 2021, surrounded by family. A Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 7th, beginning at 6 PM, with the Rosary at 7 PM. The Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, April 8th at 10:30 AM. All services will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Wichita. Darin will be laid to rest at White Chapel Memorial Gardens following the Funeral Mass. Darin was preceded in death by his father, William Looper; brother-in-law, Bob “B.T.” Thomas; grandparents, Robert and Lena Starkey, Edker and Julia Looper, and father-in-law, Edward Mayfield. Darin is survived by his wife of 27 years, Margaret; daughter, Megan; sons, Austin and Justin; mother, Roberta; brothers, Donald (Katrina), David (Connie); sister, Dena Thomas; mother-in-law, Mary Elaine Mayfield, as well as his sisters-in-law, brothers-in law, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Darin fought his battle with cancer for over seven years, following his diagnosis in 2013. After undergoing countless surgeries, treatments, and clinical trials, he is now at his final resting place. Darin defied the odds of his disease and was an inspiring testament to the power of perseverance and positivity. As an avid golfer, when he wasn’t playing himself, he was mentoring young players. He served as an assistant golf coach at Newman University, where he played collegiately and was part of the program’s revitalization. Darin was a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend whose conversation never failed to capture the attention of whomever he was with. His favorite topic of discussion was the achievements of his three children, of whom he was the greatest supporter. Darin just may have been the biggest Dallas Cowboys fan this world had ever seen. Though his living room officiating sometimes fell on deaf ears, he was always invested in “America’s Team”. He leaves behind a legacy that inspires all who knew him; one of unwavering commitment in the face of challenging circumstances, of living each day to the fullest, of finishing the fight. Darin will be honored and remembered for his journey, his resilient spirit, and the many lives he touched who are proud to tell his story. Memorials in his honor are established with the cancer support organization, Victory in the Valley, 3755 E. Douglas, Wichita, KS 67218 and Wichita Junior Golf Foundation, 58 E. Via Verde St., Wichita, KS 67230. Arrangements by Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Dena, we are so very sorry to hear of the passing of your brother. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Tom and Patty

  2. Although I only met Darin once while visiting Texas, I knew he was a good soul. Even though he was fighting cancer, you would never know it. His smile did not give anything away. Don, I am so sorry to you and all of your family for losing someone so important to all. Your brother is watching over all of you now. May God and your memories help you through this difficult time.

  3. Had lunch with Darin and my brother Daryl a couple years ago. You would never know Darin had cancer, Darin was still the friendly and upbeat person I met in the 80’s. Darin and I tied for the Wichita City Medal play Medalist in 1987, we shot 68 . I was happy to see Darin had progressed with his game, even had a coach. I am sorry for the Looper Family and Friends loss. Byron Dienstbach
