John Eldon Ford

John Eldon Ford, 88, of Maize, KS, passed away April 10, 2021, at Ascension Via Christi St. Teresa Hospital. He was born January 27, 1933, in Nashville, KS, the son of Guy and Lena (Lee) Ford. John graduated from Isabel High School, class of 1951. Following graduation, he served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning home in 1955, he moved to Wichita, Kansas, and worked for a local exterminator. Shortly thereafter he married Maribel Swinson, with whom he celebrated nearly 65 years of marriage. true jack-of-all trades, John also worked for Cessna Aircraft, AM Corporation and USD 266, but found his passion during retirement in which he owned and operated his own printer and cartridge repair shop. Few things meant as much to John as Wichita State basketball games, his family, and fulfilling his role as the family’s “Mr. Fix-It”. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a brother, Floyd “Smokey” Ford, and son-in law, Gene Pollman. Surviving in addition to his wife, Maribel (Swinson) Ford, are his daughter, Tamy Pollman of Maize; son, Randy Ford and his wife Jill of Arlington; three grandchildren, DeeDee (Pollman) Kittle and her husband Jason, Amanda Ford, and Erin Ford; four great-grandchildren, Haleigh Avila, Jadeon Vermillion, Landon Vermillion and Peyton Vermillion. Visitation will be offered from 1-6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 at Downing and Lahey Mortuary West, 10515 W. Maple, Wichita. A service of remembrance will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, April 14 at Maize United Methodist Church, 208 E. Academy Ave., Maize. Those who wish to remember John in a special way may make gifts in his memory to Maize United Methodist Church.
We fondly remember John’s and Gary Stahl’s double surprise 80th birthday party! We will never forget the looks on their faces when they walked into the Reception Room at the Maize United Methodist Church. It was a fun party!
