Daniel L. Chinberg

Daniel Lowell Chinberg, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021.
Dan was born February 23, 1931, in McPherson Hospital, McPherson, KS. Daniel was the son of Edith Merriam Logbeck and Carl Evald Chinberg. Dan was baptized and confirmed in New Gottland Lutheran Church. He graduated from a one-room grade school (Scandia) in 1944. He went to McPherson High School and graduated in 1948. He has remained a Lutheran all his life. Dan attended Salt City Business College (in Hutchinson, KS) for one year.
Dan enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on July 30, 1951. He took his Basic training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, CA. He then took his Tent Camp & Cold Weather Training at Oceanside and Pickle Meadows, CA. Dan was shipped overseas to Inchon, Korea where he became part of the 1st Marine Division. He remained in Korea for approximately one year. Dan served the remainder of his enlistment in Barstow, CA. He received an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Sergeant in 1954.
Dan enrolled in college at Tulsa University. During summer break, he met Marcia Scott whom he married on November 23, 1956. He graduated from TU with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics in 1959. Dan and Marcia had three sons. Michael Dan Chinberg was born in Tulsa, OK on February 12, 1958. Dan, Marcia, and Michael moved to Wichita in July 1959. Douglas Warren Chinberg was born in Wichita, KS on December 16, 1959. Timothy James Chinberg was born September 10, 1964, also in Wichita.
Dan worked at Boeing from July 1959 until July 1995 (36 years). Dan worked in Flight Test as a Flight Test Computer Engineer. He worked in computing on test programs for the B-52. At the end of Dan’s career, he spent the last year and a half working in Maryland on the A-6 re-wing program.
His hobbies included: bowling (his highest game was 270), gardening, working on his cars, and home improvement projects.
His interests included: taking his sons on their many sporting events, watching Cardinal baseball and Wichita State University Shockers basketball. Dan often enjoyed traveling to McPherson, KS where he grew up and often helped with farming activities that went on while he was there. There were many summers when Dan traveled to McPherson to help his brothers with the wheat harvest.
Dan and Marcia enjoyed traveling. They traveled all across the continental United States. They enjoyed traveling on cruises and travel tours. Favorites included their trips to Halifax, Canada; Germany, Florida, Table Rock Lake, and Branson, MO.
Dan was involved at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in a number of ways. He served with the Good News Casters, PTL, on the School Board, as an Elder, on the Golden Eagles Dinner group, and with the Braille workers. Dan always enjoyed the many different Bible study groups including the Senior Men’s Bible study group.
Dan is survived by his wife, Marcia; his children, Mike (Carol), Doug (Kathy), and Tim; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; his brother, Dennis (Kay) Chinberg; his sister, Mary (Jon) Fetterhoof. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Dean and Vincent.
Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 am, Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Graveside Service will follow at 2:30 pm at New Gottland Cemetery, McPherson County, KS.
