Margery Alice (Lygrisse) Warren was born June 27, 1932, in Wichita, Kansas, to I. K. (Illinois Kansas) and Hazel E. (Rhoades) Lygrisse. She was the second of five children, two brothers and two sisters. She went to be with Jesus on June 13, 2021, at the age of 88, and only 14 days short of her 89th birthday. Her early years were spent with the growing family in Wichita and then prior to enrolling in elementary school, the family moved to the farm at rural Benton, Kansas. Soon older brother Lowell, Margery, and sister, Carolyn, were joined by sister, Jeannine, and brother, Glenn. This family was involved in family, community, school, and church. They attended University Friends Church in Wichita on a weekly basis. Margery entered 1st grade at age 5 along with brother, Lowell, at Garfield Rural School in Payne Township, Sedgwick County. This one room school seemed to hone her talent and love for teaching as she then turned her learning to teaching her younger siblings to read and write prior to them entering school. Her community activity included 4-H Club and all the siblings showed their prize Polled Herefords at county and state fairs. Margery was especially proud of her heifer she named Marabelle. Another skill she learned from both her mother and 4-H projects was that of cooking. Throughout her life she enjoyed cooking for family and friends. Following one year at Whitewater High School, she and Lowell transferred to Benton High School where she graduated at age 16. She then enrolled at Friends University and proceeded to take heavy loads and graduated from Friends at age 19 with her Bachelor’s Degree and began to teach the following semester at age 20. While at Friends, she met the love of her life, Lawrence “Larry” Warren. They were married at the University Friends Church on August 23, 1952. Margery began her teaching career in Wichita, then Burden, Sunnyside, and Rose Hill schools. Following that she came back to the Wichita system as an aide. For a time she worked at Fourth National Bank in Wichita. Larry and Margery lived in Wichita; Burden, KS; Germany (Army years for Larry); back to Wichita; rural Towanda; Nathrop, Colorado; Tucson, Arizona; back to rural Towanda; then to Oxford Villa in West Wichita. They attended University Friends for a time while Larry was the congregation's choir director. As they moved, they attended various churches, usually leaning to Presbyterian churches. During recent conversations with Glenn and Dianne, Margery confirmed that she had trusted Jesus as her Saviour. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence “Larry” L. Warren of Wichita; brother, Lowell (Zee) Lygrisse of rural Towanda, KS; sister, Carolyn (Gary) Wolf of Winter Park, FL; sister, Jeannine (Jerry, deceased) Bryan of Winfield, KS; brother, Glenn (Dianne) Lygrisse of Wichita, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, I. K. and Hazel Lygrisse. Visitation, 5:00 - 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 17; Memorial Service, 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 18, both at Downing & Lahey Mortuary West. Memorial gifts may be given in Margery’s honor to Serenity Hospice or the Alzheimer’s Association.
