James C. Remsberg, P.E., loving and cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and engineer died December 18, 2021. Jim was born in Iola, KS on May 28, 1932, to Ralph and Zella Remsberg. He graduated from Iola High School in 1950. He attended Allen County Community College, 1950-1952. He then enlisted in the Army and served as a Radar Specialist during the Korean War, 1952-1954. Following his service, he enrolled at The University of Kansas, graduating with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering in 1957. While at KU he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity where he acquired lifelong friends, “the Old Goats.” He continued to support KU for the rest of his life as an avid Jayhawk fan and in a variety of positions including the School of Engineering Advisory Board. One of his proudest accomplishments was receiving the Distinguished Engineering Service Award in 2014. He married Sandra Garver in January 1957 and they spent the next 65 years together raising three daughters and five grandchildren and enjoying extended family and friends. Jim was a petroleum engineer whose 70-year career in the oil industry was fueled by a love of the business, his peers, and the challenges of the market. He joined Slawson Drilling Company, Inc. in 1965 and then launched his own firm, Argent Energy, in 1986. He was a member of the Petroleum Club, the Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association (KIOGA) and was inducted into the KIOGA Hall of Fame in 2021. He was humbled and thrilled by the honor from his contemporaries. Jim was engaged in many civic organizations including Y’s Men, Eastside Rotary, The Royal Order of Jesters, Sterling College Board of Trustees, Wichita Wagonmasters (Commodore, founding member), Wichita Festivals, Inc. He loved being Admiral Windwagon Smith VI in 1979. In all groups he led by example and made lifelong friends. Jim was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. His church was a focal point of his life. Jim’s hobbies included upland bird hunting, fishing, and golf. His best memories were made on Pelican Lake, MN surrounded by nature and family. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sandy, and his three daughters, Dana Scott (Vic), Jill McGee (Tom) and Jennifer Remsberg; five grandchildren, Abby Scott and fiancé Aaron Martin, Emily Scott, Michael McGee (Kali), Patrick McGee (Paige) and Jackie McGee; his brother, George Remsberg (Sue); nephews, Steve, Craig and Todd Slawson, Rick, Tad and John Remsberg; nieces, Ann Remsberg Faulkner, Susan Remsberg Grant and Stevie Remsberg Mortenson. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I can’t remember a time in my life without “Uncle Jim & Aunt Sandy”! One of my favorite memories is when we went to the beach in TX. Dana & Jill were taller than me so I couldn’t go out as far out into the ocean as they did. Uncle Jim and my dad came into the water to where we were. He told dad to put me on his shoulders so I could go out to where the others were. Next thing I knew Jill was on Uncle Jim’s shoulders too. Our dads weren’t going to let us miss out on the fun! Fun is a word that will always describe Uncle Jim in my mind. Sending love to Aunt Sandy, Dana, Jill & Jenny.

    • Dear Sandy & Family – the pain & sorrow created by the death of Jim is deeply shared at our house – he was a great friend of the military -Col. Don Gaylor & Wilma

  2. Rest James, until you hear at dawn, the low, clear reveille of God. Thank you for your service to this nation. U.S. Army, Korean War.

  3. Sandy, my thoughts and prayers are with you and the girls today. When I think of Jim I always see a smile on his face and a friendly greeting. I know he will be missed by the whole community. Sending my hugs. Cindy Frank Lewis

  4. Please accept my sincere condolences. I worked on his computers at Argent for several years and he always had some new software for me to install. He was a very nice man to work with.
