Kathryn Elaine Morgan

Kathy Morgan, 72, of Wichita, Kansas—a woman of fervent faith and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother—went to be with her precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 27, 2022. Kathy was born on October 17, 1949, to Ozzie and Betty Mall of Wichita. After high school, she started at Southwestern College in Winfield, where she met Art Morgan from Sublette. The two of them began a whirlwind romance during the following summer and married in Kingman on August 9, 1968—the same day as his college graduation! Kathy spent a full four decades as a stay-at-home Mom for her four children (let that sink in). She also took in many piano students over the years and later taught art in some of the schools where her husband was the principal. She was creative and quick-witted, a lover of puzzles and in later years something of a cat lady. A very talented artist herself, she took special interest in the artistic output of her children and grandchildren, whether in music, art, or writing. She was also spunky and outspoken, a stronger person internally than you might know from her physical form...overcoming difficulties in younger years, beating breast cancer, and a series of health challenges after that. If you knew anything about Kathy, it was that she was a devoted disciple of Jesus. She and Art became born-again Christians in 1970, and they taught or were an active part of many Sunday School classes, Bible studies, and small groups in Garden City, Fresno, Wichita, New Jersey, St Louis, Columbia, and back in Wichita, where they became members of Evangel in 2012. Above all, Kathy loved missions, reading missionary biographies as a family, spending time with those who were on furlough, and always eager to tell you about the missionary she just heard at church. It was no surprise when she and Art followed the leading of the Lord to bring two beautiful babies from India into the family. And she held firm to a promise she felt from the Lord that one of her children would become a missionary (which they did!). While she was less able to be involved in church as her health declined, Kathy watched services online, attended when she could, and continued to worship Christ at home. And in her final moments, this granddaughter of German Lutheran pastors lay surrounded by her three siblings, who sang familiar hymns and read Bible passages to her. Kathryn Elaine Morgan will be missed by those whose lives were forever changed by her spirit and faith. She is preceded in death by her parents Ozzie and Betty Mall. She is survived by her loving husband, Art, of Wichita; by her siblings, Sandy Monroe, David Mall, and Linda Mall, of Wichita; by her son Aaron, his wife, Shannon, and their sons Connor and Asher, of Seguin, Texas, and Budapest, Hungary; by her son Jonathan, his wife, Jessica, and their children Catherine, Thomas, Maria, Monica, Lawrence, Dominic, and Bernadette, of Augusta; by her daughter, Anna, of St Louis; and by her son Ben, his wife, Samantha, and their children Wren and Ozzie, of Columbia, Missouri. Thank you for being here today to celebrate the full life and Christian legacy of our beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. Like Much-Afraid in one of Kathy’s favorite books, we invite you to follow the Shepherd ever upward so that you can say with her: “The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me walk upon mine high places” (Habakkuk 3:19). Visitation, 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, Saturday, April 30, 2022 at Downing & Lahey Mortuary, West Chapel. Funeral Service, 3:00 pm, Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Evangel Assembly of God Church.

  1. She was a beautiful Godly woman inside and outside. I enjoyed doing a Bible study with her on the Beattitudes. She was a beautiful example to me of God’s love and had an excellent understanding of God’s Word! Much love, Tami Sheck💝

  2. I will always remember Kathy’s love for people from other nations! She was very welcoming and loving to the university international students that Art and her hosted through the years. I can imagine her now worshipping Jesus with people from many nations in heaven!

  3. She’s a faithful servant that saved my soul through Jesus Christ. Her work is finished and now she’s home to rest! Love so much! Pink

  4. You took teaching art to a whole new level. Ethan and Evie can draw because you taught them that art is a talent that can be learned (like music) with practice and patience. I happily volunteered to assist in your art classes, because I loved seeing the joy on the students faces when they achieved another level and received one of your drawings as a prize. You taught with love, kindness and encouragement. Your love of the Lord was clear and evident in all of our interactions. Thank you for your life’s testimony of God’s grace and love for us.
