Miriam Evelyn (Drevits) Romalis

February 16, 1944 ~ October 10, 2022
- Miriam Evelyn (Drevits) Romalis, 78, passed away on October 10, 2022, in Wichita, Kansas. Miriam was born February 16, 1944, in Salina, Kansas to the late Waldemar and Esther (Hultman) Drevits of Smolan, Kansas. She attended Smolan Grade School and graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1962. She was a 1965 graduate of the Wesley School of Nursing in Wichita and began her nursing career at Topeka State Hospital. She met and later married her husband Dr. Brian Romalis who was doing his residency at the Menninger School of Psychiatry.
Miriam was a gifted pianist and jazz aficionado. She was a regular presence with her friend Marie Sawyer at the Wichita Jazz Festival going back to the 1970s.
She was very well read and kept up with politics and world events. There was always a stack of books and newspapers nearby and multiple news sites open on her iPad.
A family historian, she seemed to have a story about every relative on both her parents' sides...as well as her husband's family! We always enjoyed reading old letters, looking at pictures and attending reunions with her as there was always something “new” we never knew before.
She loved a good sporting event and had she not decided in 1982 to purchase Wichita Wings soccer season tickets for her family, the book Make This Town Big and the documentary God Save The Wings may never have been respectively written and filmed.
Miriam was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca (Jason Stuckless) of Toronto, Ontario; son, Michael of Wichita; brother, David Drevits (Patricia Roche) of Glastonbury, CT; nieces, Elizabeth Drevits-Tomaszewski (John Tomaszewski) of Longmeadow, MA, Megan Drevits (Nik Stoyanov) of Glastonbury, CT; nephews, Arthur (JoAnn) and Stephen (Sima) Chapman of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Kenneth Chapman (Michelle) of Toronto, Ontario, as well as her many beloved cousins and friends in Kansas and beyond.
The family wishes to thank the respective staffs of Wesley Medical Center and Wesley Woodlawn, Larksfield Assisted Living and Phoenix Hospice for their excellent care.
A celebration of life for both Miriam and Brian will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Save The Kitties, 233 S. Georgie Ave., Ste. B., Derby, KS 67037; the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside St., Wichita, KS 67219; and Mission Hill Cemetery, c/o Mark Peterson, Treasurer, 223 N. 1st Street, Lindsborg, KS 67456.
