Janna Louise Jossie was born on October 2, 1971, in Phoenix, Arizona. Delivered via emergency C-section, she was born with Rh factor complications and spent the first six weeks of her life in the hospital. Janna showed her fighting spirit from birth as she recovered from this serious illness and went on to grow and thrive. Janna did well in school and had many friends. She excelled in English, history, writing, and home economics. In college she earned a bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Science Education from the University of Arizona. If there had a been a cooking degree, she would have aced it. One of her favorite things was to cook. She loved to experiment and explore new recipes and could dress up any meal to be a feast fit for dignitaries. Like her dad, Janna was fond of Volkswagens and when she was 16, together they bought and restored her first car, a VW Type 3 “Squareback” model. Years later she bought the exact same car again from another owner as a future keepsake and investment. Before her marriage Janna lived with her Grandma and Grandpa Chatwin in Phoenix. She loved spending time with them, and they developed a tight bond. Janna and her husband later lived with them for a time before their passing to help care for them in their later years. She is surely enjoying a sweet reunion with her beloved grandparents now. On May 22, 1993, Janna married her high school sweetheart, Delynn Burton Dayley and they were sealed together for eternity in the Mesa Arizona LDS temple. Later on, they had four children. As her boys became old enough, Janna threw herself into scouting, beginning with Cub Scouts. She was a great asset to the local packs and troops and participated enthusiastically meetings, pinewood derby races, courts of honor, fund raising, banquets, and occasional campouts. She herself exemplified the Scout motto, “Be Prepared” and taught it to many others using the “Edge” method. Janna supported all her children in their musical talents, carrying on a tradition inherited from both sides of the family. She seldom missed a concert or recital. Janna was a very good mother, and always strove to inculcate high moral character in her children. Her greatest hope was that her children would “walk in the ways of the Lord.” Janna worked as a paraprofessional for the Maize 266 school district for several years. She loved the students and staff alike and was well-loved by them in return. She continued working as long as she could and was often thinking about “her” students - even when her pain was nearly debilitating. Janna was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings in the Church, including as ward Relief Society president and as Young Women’s Advisor. The restored gospel of Jesus Christ and her family meant everything to Janna. From her hospital bed just a few days before her passing, Janna expressed a wish. Here is what she said in her own words:“I wish I had enough energy in my body to write something to everyone that I’m currently involved with in my sphere of influence - and say, ‘These are the things that are important to me and this is how I want you to remember me.’ I’d name each person and say, ‘Look, this is how we met; this is why I’m in your life. This is why you’ve been in my life. And I wanted to let you know how much I love you, and how it’s all because of Christ that we met. So come and hear more. I invite you to hear more.’” In spring 2021 Janna was diagnosed with breast cancer. With inspiring optimism, she used her fighting spirit to defeat the cancer, and was blessed with several months of normalcy with her family. Then in early December of 2022 she was diagnosed with metastatic cancer in her spine. This progressed quickly to other sites, and on Sunday, December 18, 2022, Janna peacefully departed this mortal world. She fought her fight well and completed with honor the good work that she was sent here to do. Janna is survived by her parents, Gregg and Kathie Jossie of Peoria, AZ; husband D. Burton Dayley of Wichita, KS; children Zoe (fka Jay) of San Antonio, TX and Thomas, Scott, and Kathryn of Wichita, KS; brothers Kent (Kerry) Jossie of Pomona, KS and Aaron (Allison) Jossie of Providence, UT; sisters Kimberly (Matt) Leach of Peoria, AZ and Jennifer (Bradley) Landseadel of Gilbert, AZ; her mother-in-law, Nola Dayley, and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by three infant sisters, Ann, Leah, and Heather. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 30 at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 7834 West 29th Street North, Wichita, Kansas 67205. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Janna was such a good friend to me in high school, and when we were both newlyweds. I have fond memories of her at girls’ camp, wearing her jean overalls, and having everything you could possibly need, stored away in her various pockets. She was always singing too as she walked through camp. I remember how infatuated she was with D. during high school, and how over the moon she was when they began dating, and then eventually married. I miss you, Janna! Save a hug for me when I get to the other side. My heart felt love goes out to your family!♥️

  2. Janna was so enthusiastic in everything she did. She loved the Lord, her family and life. I have been lifted by knowing Janna. She loved scouting, loved truth, loved goodness. One thing I’ll always remember about Janna is her enthusiastic, loving smile she would always have for me. She is a giant of a woman in my book and has taught me much by her faithful life. I’ll miss you Janna! God be with you!

  3. So saddened to hear of Janna’s passing. She was truly an elect lady. She laughed easily, always had a smile and looked for opportunities to serve others.
