Harry Louis Najim, 75, died on March 5, 2023. He was born in Springfield, Illinois, but lived most of his life in Wichita, Kansas. He received his Bachelor’s degrees in History and Political Science from the University of Kansas in 1969 and his Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University in 1972. He practiced law for over 50 years in Wichita, specializing in aviation, business, and family law. He is survived by his brothers, Harvey E. Najim and Ralph E. Najim; his four children, Peter L. Najim, Jamie L. Najim, Claire E. Najim (Matthew Smelley), and Elizabeth A. Najim; their mother, Sue E. Najim; and his three grandchildren, Katherine, Peyton, and Emery Smelley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elias L. Najim and Jamelia (Cohlmia) Najim; and his brother, Richard J. Najim. Harry’s vibrant personality created a memorable legacy. He loved to make others laugh, discuss current events, travel internationally, and cook fine cuisine. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. He will be dearly missed. Visitation will be on Friday, March 10, at Downing and Lahey East Mortuary, 6555 E. Central, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Trisagion and funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 11, at St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral, 7515 E. 13th St. N. Burial and Meal of Mercy will be held at the Kensington Gardens Cemetery following the service. Flowers may be sent to Downing and Lahey East Mortuary. Charitable donations can be made to St. George Orthodox Christian Cathedral and Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

  1. Harry was an excellent friend. Always there with a kind word, with a raunchy story and with deeply discounted legal advice. I could always count on him. Recently distance and disease have kept us apart. But that never changed the fact of the friendship. I shall miss him. Jane Seifert
